The M240 (and M246 Monochrom) share sensor architecture with the S007 (much like the S3 shares with the M10-R and M10M). This old article from Red Dot Forum provides some interesting details about technical innovations that were incorporated and went beyond just pixels and pixel pitch, etc. https://www.reddotforum.com/content/2014/11/why-leica-is-staying-at-37-5mp-for-the-s-typ-007/

I read recently that some guy died from exposure at 10,000 feet. I guess one should also consider altitude when determining proper exposure.

Q3 43 or M-EV1: Trying to make best decision as senior with vision issue

But, as Stefan Daniel confirmed, the original M11 was designed with the possibility of incorporating an EVF, which is why implementation was eased and costs were minimized after feedback suggested the timing was finally right. And since the M11 debuted in 2022, Leica had the insight and foresight quite a while before that. -
SL2 does not have tilt-screen, but it has the other key SL system advantage: weather sealing.

A sense of humor is a good investment for future well being.

I suggest you take “finance” out of your forum name.

The most important factor determining photographic results is obviously the person behind the gear. But, for a superb photographer, and for the right project, the equipment used can be vital. Josef Koudelka exemplified this through his iconic Gypsies project/book, for which he used a 25mm lens, obtained by chance for his Exakta Varex 35mm camera. The wide angle proved especially well suited for people within close quarters, and for Koudelka’s wonderful eye. The results speak for themselves. He later went on to use very different focal lengths, and formats, which better suited subsequent projects. The following book review attempts to deconstruct some of the images from the book. But of course nobody can deconstruct Koudelka’s brain and vision. I’m sure he would have worked similar magic using a 21mm lens, or with something else. https://erickimphotography.com/blog/2014/01/30/street-photography-book-review-gypsies-by-josef-koudelka/

Warranty and return policy would be key for me.

Good practice for camera firmware. With the SL system, when you attach an SL lens to an updated camera, it will automatically prompt the user to start any required lens update, taking just seconds, without your having to find it on your own.

Fortunately that interweb thingy has easy search capability… comments and critiques.

Besides compactness, I would place more value on stabilization and weather sealing than AF. The M-EV lacks both. I shoot my SL2 deliberately, so AF is not really essential, especially with focus aids; other aspects make it more flexible than, and complementary to, my M system. I don’t mind the bulk/weight of the SL2 with 24-90 (and smaller 28-70), but a more compact system, with similar functionality, might serve well for travel, long hikes, etc. IQ hasn’t really been lacking across most modern systems and brands, at least not for my modest print sizes. Leica excels for me, however, in build quality, simplicity of controls and menus, VF design and execution, lens options, etc.

The following thread covers the WATE for simultaneous M use, but several wide angle L mount zooms are also mentioned…from Leica, Panasonic and Sigma. There are various other related discussions.

I’m cutting back on M gear after about 40 years of continuous use. My rarely used M10-R BP is currently for sale, and my M(9)M will likely follow, leaving me with an M10M and 4 lenses. The SL2 and 24-90 is my workhorse lately, only recently adding the 28-70 for a more compact alternative. But circumstances change, and tech evolves, so none of this is locked in stone. Leica has shown that they are willing to change and experiment, too, so maybe a future M will appeal.

Thanks, but minor issue compared to others’ challenges. At 75, I’ve lost friends much younger than I, and others I know deal regularly with far more difficult circumstances. I carry on with use of the M system, just using common sense handling and settings, but the SL2 is surely a more flexible tool. Fortunately, nobody but me knows or cares what gear I use when looking at pics or prints.
