damien_demolder Posted October 12, 2009 Share #1 Posted October 12, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all Just to let you know that if you are collecting the tokens for the Amateur Photographer 125 Anniversary Leica M9 you won't find token 2 in the 17 October issue. AP is now so old it completely forgot to print it! In the meantime you can either cut out the poll pie chart from p3 of that issue and stick that to the token-collect coupon, or wait until the 24 October issue in which both tokens 2 and 3 will be printed. Sorry for the mistake - and please pass this on to as many people as you can so they don't go out on Tuesday to buy the magazine and find the token isn't in it. You can read further details at via this link as well as how you can still enter. Damien Demolder - editor, AP

Speenth Posted October 12, 2009 Share #2 Posted October 12, 2009 Sorry for the mistake - and please pass this on to as many people as you can so they don't go out on Tuesday to buy the magazine and find the token isn't in it. Damien Demolder - editor, AP First the speedy admission of the 'oops' moment and second, the editor encourages readers NOT to buy the magazine on Tuesday! I'll buy the magazine for this refreshing approach alone - once it was routinely like this, integrity was paramount, even amongst our politicians, who'd resign when they messed up. The rot started in Parliament, festered through the City and now it pervades all of modern society. Nobody accepts blame, nor offers to take the consequences. It is refreshing when honesty and integrity resurface once in a while.
beoon Posted October 12, 2009 Share #3 Posted October 12, 2009 Damien, This is an outrage to subscribers like me who have just been looking for the token in my issue delivered today. I think you should cancel the competitiion immediately and hand deliver to me personally the Leica M9 and 50mm Summilux immediately. I can then cancel my Leica M9 order and someone can get my camera and everyone will be happy. Well you can only ask.

Please write your name and address on a note and attach it to a helium balloon and I'll get that camera right over to you. I'll thrown in some extra lenses too if the gas can carry them all! It is a bit of a boob to say the least, but at least subscribers can just use next week's double bill of tokens - so long as they haven't all gone crazy trying to find where we hid it this week. . We've had quite a few calls from subscribers, who get their copy on Saturday, but Tuesday is the day when the masses get their copy. The phone will be ringing off the hook! And thanks for your kind words Speenth. Just doin' me job gov.
bill Posted October 12, 2009 Share #5 Posted October 12, 2009 Problem is, I'd rather buy one myself than have one with AMATEUR PHOTOGRAPHER in VERY, VERY LARGE letters on the top-plate. Can the winner have the top-plate switched, one wonders...? Regards, Bill

I've just been reading the olden days. You almost defended me over the DMR review, which of course stands you on very firm ground today. It's always great fun to look back over old forum comments, rants and accusations; they are incredibly rich in history.
bill Posted October 12, 2009 Share #9 Posted October 12, 2009 Ah, you see, I've been a reader since the early days of Keith Wilson; I may not always agree with the editorial direction - just how many "landscape special" editions does the world really need? - but I appreciate the generally even-handed reviewing and the continued appreciation that there are photographers in this world to whom film is not (just) a four-letter word beginning with F...! I look forward to winning my M9 in due course (very much enjoyed the anniversary edition of AP, I remember some of the reprinted articles and covers!). James, you'll have to give up your day job if you win both the M8 AND the D Lux 4 this coming week end. You will need all day to shoot so as to justify using both. Good luck on Saturday. I am already suffering withdrawal symptoms from canceling out.

Having said that you might find you will have a problem getting hold of a helium balloon for delivery. You see Leica AG in Solms have bought them all, that is why deliveries of production M9's is so slow! Alan
