I'm using it on the M8 and it does its job well. It makes the viewfinder -appear- smaller (e.g. you cant see the 24 frameline) and its a bit difficult to see the 35 lines with glasses.

Other than that, it makes the rangefinder patch -a lot- bigger. It's handy with the 75/90 lenses. For 135, I think it's a must.

The eyepiece doesn't appear to have a soft surround to prevent spectacle wearers suffering scratched glasses. I may be mistaken; an owner will confirm, I'm sure. Neither is the item tethered to the camera like the Leica one. There is thus a greater risk of loss.

I want to use it with a 85 mm lens and was just wondering if it is up to the job.....!

I doubt it is a strong enough magnification, I use mine for 35mm and 50mm. If you do a Search on viewfinder magnifiers, you might well find an old thread which fully answers your concerns.

I had one and found it uncomfortable to use with glasses and, yes, it did scratch them as there is no rubber ring on the outside. I also found it 'dulled' the viewfinder image and the 1.4x leica magnifier I subsequently bought is much much better.

Yes the Leica equivalent includes a nylon string to thether - but costs 10 times as much...

I have the HKG version - works perfect and as said before is a must for 135mm

I use the HK 1.25x magnifier on a M8.2 with my CV 35/1.2 and use the Leica 1.4x magnifier for lenses 60mm and longer.

This isn't quite as clean and simple a solution as my M6 with the .85x finder, but it is better than just the native .68x finder of the M8.2.

I like the Megaperls magnifiers (they go under a new name now). They are somewhere between the price of the Leica and the HK magnifier. I have owned the Leica 1.25.

I have one, but never use it, the form factor doesn't it allow ti fit in my bag easily without removing.

If I were to get a magnifier, I'd probably get a Megaperls (Japan Exposures) with built in diopter and smaller rounder form factor. I have one of these for my RD1.
