erl Posted May 29, 2007 Share #81 Posted May 29, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) O.K. I plead guilty to bad organisation. I can't remember the date of this event. Strange as it is, I actually think I just might wangle another trip from Oz that passes through Berlin, but need to know what to lock in, date wise. Yes, I know, it's somewhere in this thread, but I don't have time to go back over it. Search? Well learning how will take longer, for me. I am starting to make huge efforts finance wise to get an airfare together. If I can make it there, I am definately in on any food and grog fun! I will update my status when I can confirm travel arrangements. Here's hoping.
Advertisement Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 Hi erl, Take a look here Numbers? Berlin Challenge 13/10/07. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
earleygallery Posted May 29, 2007 Share #82 Posted May 29, 2007 Erl, its on Saturday 13th October (mental note must book flight/hotel)
stunsworth Posted May 29, 2007 Share #83 Posted May 29, 2007 Erl, it would be great if you could make it again - and you'd certainly be the winner of the 'Greatest Effort Made To Attend' award for the second year running!
robert_parker Posted May 29, 2007 Share #84 Posted May 29, 2007 ...and don't forget to bring the Noctilux - we'll see if we can get it a little further away from the resturant than Pascal managed last time...(London perhaps...or maybe Weston super Mare...) ps Any recommendations on hotels would be gratefully received
carstenw Posted May 29, 2007 Share #85 Posted May 29, 2007 +1 for me, please. I look forward to it! I will surely win the "least effort to attend" award though, as I live in Berlin, perhaps a 15-minute walk from the Pratergarten. Any chance of increasing the maximum time to 3 hours? There are some places in Berlin it would be difficult to reach with enough time left over to shoot 36 images without pre-planning the shooting, surely not a fair tactic... Robert, what kind of hotel are you looking for? There are many little mid-range hotels in the neighbourhood, but the fancier ones would be further away. stunsworth Posted May 29, 2007 Share #86 Posted May 29, 2007 I'd be interested in any hotel suggestions as well. Preferably near to where we'll be meeting in the afternoon. As a cheapskate I'd be looking for two or three stars. Being able to book online would be useful too. Robert, even if Erl can't make it - and I hope he can - there will probably be at least one person with a Nocti in his bag (assuming it gets back from Solms on time :-)

stunsworth Posted May 30, 2007 Share #89 Posted May 30, 2007 No problem Robert, all of that is in Solms at the moment, but I'm sure I'll have it back in time to leave lying around in an ungarded fashion Would you like me to bring the original receipt as well as proof of ownership? andybarton Posted May 30, 2007 Author Share #90 Posted May 30, 2007 Just been looking at the location for lunch (as above) again. That looks like a fair old walk from Potsdamerplatz. Can someone local confirm that this is not too far off the beaten track? Thanks
stunsworth Posted May 30, 2007 Share #91 Posted May 30, 2007 Andy, my recollection from looking at a map is that it's in what was old East Berlin, but not too far from the border. Speaking to friends who went to Berlin recently they prefered the East from a photographic point of view. Of course other people's opinions can differ :-) Perhaps as you say someone with local knowledge can comment.
carstenw Posted May 30, 2007 Share #92 Posted May 30, 2007 Andy, if you take the U2 from Potsdamer Platz and get out at Eberswalder Straße, you will not have a long walk on either end. It runs all night on weekends, just in case The east is less interesting than it was, but the west is as boring as ever. Berlin is cleaning up too fast for my taste, but there is still something to shoot.

Sandokan Posted June 2, 2007 Share #97 Posted June 2, 2007 ....Lucky I'm a Yankees fan then....... I was looking forward to lots of vases and statues going cheap (and in several pieces) after they finished playing in the museum . I am afraid that I gave up trying to understand baseball - the stadium beer was too weak! Overgaard Posted June 7, 2007 Share #100 Posted June 7, 2007 Here is a hotel and restaurant recommendation in Berlin: http://www.hotel-am-olivaer-platz.de is inexpensice (well, so is most of the hotels and food-places in Berlin). It's a large apartment made into hotel. Just below this place is an italian place where the owners 75 year old italian uncle make pizzas to die for! As for restaurants/cafés, my personal favourite is Paris Café/Bar and Paris Restaurant at Kantsrasse (the ZOO end of Kanststrasse). Open every day from 12.00 to 02.00 (kitchen closes a bit earlier). It's located in the nice Charlottenburg, has a very aesthetic and artistic interior, lots of international characters and artists meet there - and just a walk around the corner from it you find ... LeicaBeiMeister.com Berlin. I should mention that many of the young blond girls serving in the Paris café is Danish artists living in Berlin (because of the low living-expenses that make it possible to be an artist). This café/restaurant might be the place to meet and dine after the shooting, considering it's open till that late.
