geesbert Posted September 30, 2009 Share #1 Posted September 30, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am one of those guys getting seriously pissed off by that leica babble that the camera was ready to ship by the 9.9.9. I am on top of my dealer's list but leica is not delivering. I'd say: German cameras in German hands first! meanwhile I am getting more and more excited about a camera, that is said to exist, but doesn't materialize and wonder: what are any of you 20 or so guys who received the camera thinking of the lack of a top display? I am looking a lot onto my m8's battery indicator and remaining shot count, isn't the info button thing a tad annoying? Stefan
Advertisement Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 Hi geesbert, Take a look here do you miss the top lcd. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
doug_m Posted September 30, 2009 Share #2 Posted September 30, 2009 Its no big deal. Yes the M8 style one was nice but I'd defer to Leica to do what they had to do to give us the M9 - which I believe to be quite nice so far
wattsy Posted September 30, 2009 Share #3 Posted September 30, 2009 I'd say: German cameras in German hands first! Didn't Hitler say something like that back in the 30s? As far as the LCD goes, I think any non-Leica fanboy would question its absence (even LFI quietly expressed its disapproval) but there are many here who don't seem to miss it. What some of the proponents of the new 'info screen' seem to forget is that Leica could have retained the top LCD (for those of us who like to glance at it to get some indication of battery condition) and still had the new option to find out more detailed info and/or see the info in the dark. Either way, it's hardly a deal breaker.
bybrett Posted September 30, 2009 Share #4 Posted September 30, 2009 I miss the the LCD on M9 but not when I shoot M8...
stevelap Posted September 30, 2009 Share #5 Posted September 30, 2009 No big deal for me too, but then I had a few months gap between M8 and M9 so had no recent handling comparison.
fishblimp Posted September 30, 2009 Share #6 Posted September 30, 2009 I started off missing the top indicator but now I really prefer the info screen. Rather than a 4-bar indicator (100, 75, 50, 25 and 0% power) screen, the info screen's battery level information seems more precise (100, 75, 50, 25, 10 and 0) but also the bar indicates BETWEEN those levels (i.e. somewhere between 75 and 50 but perhaps closer to 50). Whereas with the 4-bar, you never knew if it was closer to 75% or closer to 50% I know it's just a detail but it is handy. Also, yes, I do like that I can see this info in the dark. garygsandhu Posted September 30, 2009 Share #8 Posted September 30, 2009 I had to ship my M8 for repair of fading LCD (still waiting). I hope the next M8 firmware has the info screen, or some variant.
GMB Posted September 30, 2009 Share #9 Posted September 30, 2009 I'd say: German cameras in German hands first! Stefan From all I heard, there were more cameras available in the UK and the US than in Germany.

leicanut2 Posted October 2, 2009 Share #13 Posted October 2, 2009 I just want the M9 sold all my cameras except the dl-4 to help fund this. I miss a M camera. May sell the dl-4 with flash and fiewfinder to get a X1. But not till I get the M9 have to have one camera to play with. But you don;'t wana rush anyone making something like this. Its like buying a car made on a monday after a holiday. They may have a hangover and forget to check it out before it ships. Cheers Jan

chris_tribble Posted October 5, 2009 Share #15 Posted October 5, 2009 Doesn't worry me - and as the back info display is WAY more accurate I get a much longer use out of each charge than I did with the old indicator. Number of shots left, not an issue...
georgio Posted October 5, 2009 Share #16 Posted October 5, 2009 I'd say: German cameras in German hands first!Stefan I think you have an irritating big mouth There are so many markets that are as- or more important to Leica, than your Germany. Either way, it's hardly a deal breaker. I find Fan-boy an intensely irritating phrase. I think it would be more polite to express your opinion without that. Leica could not have retained the original display as well since they wanted to make the styling of the camera more pleasing and classical, hence the new profile there. You still need to power the camera on to read both displays. Now you have to press one button. Hardly a deal breaker, as you say. A trivial issue to find fault with, in my opinion. tom0511 Posted October 5, 2009 Share #18 Posted October 5, 2009 I would have prefered to keep the little display on the top and also think it looked better design wise. I can however live without the little thing, no big deal for me. Another thing I prefered was the black chrome of the M8 vs the black paint. BUt same here , no big deal, just minor points IMO. Overall I am very happy with the M9 and also with the reason that they didnt increase the price too much.
wattsy Posted October 5, 2009 Share #19 Posted October 5, 2009 A trivial issue to find fault with, in my opinion. It's a loss of function. As I said, not a deal breaker but also not trivial in my opinion. A new "more classical" profile is what I'd consider trivial.
