Nick...Viewed the book and your website. Very nice work.

I visited Havana a couple of years ago. I share your infatuation with the place. If you are interested, there are a couple of galleries on my website.

Lovely series Nick, that one on the Malecon was fantastic, for me it stood out head and shoulders above the others and they set the bar high in the first place. The composition and it captured the essence of the Malecon where it seems the young Cubans love to "strut" for the opposite sex :)

Thanks for the further kind comments.

I just received more copies of the book in various formats today, and I am very pleased with Blurb's printing quality. The hardback books look just about as good as mist of the photography books I have at home. B&W also came out very well, contrary to some warnings I had read. I shall inckude more B&W in my next book now I know.

'The man on the front cover of Lonely Planet' sits around posing for photos etc near a main square in old Havanna surrounded by book stalls (where I bought a great used Raul Corrales book by the way). I forget the name of this piazza but yuou are bound to find it in Old Havana. The building he is up against, if I remember correctly, has a plaque to Garibaldi on it. He is an interesting character but there is another guy, who I have some good photos of but did not include in this book, with a white beard who goes around selling pretent rangefinder cameras made out of old coke cans for a dollar. The cameras don't work, but you press the shutter and a spring jumps out. He's great.

I spent 10 days in Cuba, enough to get photos for this book. About 4 days in Havana and the rest in Trinidad, Cienfuegos and Santa Clara. Have a good trip.

(PS I slightl;y miss my M8, having published this book! But just got a GF1 today which I hope shall be fun)

hi congrats,

you are lucky... but ther are other stories.

I had my BW images printed 3 times by BLURB and the quality was awfull.

on screen, on my printer and on their site it looks fine but on paper you get all kinds of color casts.

I m looking for a company that can deliver quality, if anyone has a hint, let me know

Great Book Nick! First of all folks, i am finally registered here to post on this great forum after many visits to read and learn from other users of this forum.

Nick, i have used Blurb in the past and was wondering if you have tried Apples Aperture book? I personally like the quality of Apple books better than Blurb, if anyone else feels the same, i am sure the forum would like to know your thoughts.

Nick

Just got my copy and it is a wonderful subject and a great collection of photographs. The fact that you mastered reproduction of both black and white, and colour is impressive. Highly recommended if anyone is thinking of purchasing the book.

Thank you for the comment Louis. I also enjoyed your book, the only other Blurb book I've looked at so far. I especially like your highly saturated colour style.

I am definitely going to do more blurb books. The first book has gone well, the printing is far better than I expected. The sales have been decent so far too, but it is more the way in which the book can become a project to work and select photos for which excites me.

Thanks

It would be nice for a forum member's book taken with a Leica M8 to do well, and this can be a practice run for us making he forthcoming LFU book no. 1!
