jlancasterd Posted September 24, 2009 Share #1 Posted September 24, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Does anyone know how long the 'All Risks' passport on the M9 lasts in UK? The leaflet that comes with the camera doesn't give this information. I've filled in the application form and sent it off to Leica UK but, from past experience, don't expect to get the passport document for some time - and there's a postal strike threatened in any case... gDallasK Posted September 24, 2009 Share #4 Posted September 24, 2009 Red Dot Cameras took care of all that for me. The camera arrived on 11th and the validated passport showed up a week later. It's valid for two years. Leica have mispelled my name on it, but other than that, a very efficient service.
stevelap Posted September 24, 2009 Share #5 Posted September 24, 2009 Yes, two years and my passports arrived within a week.
christakis Posted December 13, 2010 Share #6 Posted December 13, 2010 I sent my passport application about a month ago and still haven't got anything back. I know someone received it at the other end as I sent it signed for. Anyone else waited for it so long? Cheers, Christakis
O Driver Posted December 13, 2010 Share #7 Posted December 13, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I recently ( September ) bought an M9 and the Leica passport came back stating it was 1 year - is this correct? I was surprised that it wasn't 2 years. It took around 6 weeks to get the passport. Thanks Oliver.
wlaidlaw Posted December 13, 2010 Share #8 Posted December 13, 2010 I thought it was 2 year guarantee and only 1 year all risks. Wilson
viramati Posted December 13, 2010 Share #9 Posted December 13, 2010 M9 is 1 year in the UK. M8 was 2 years
250swb Posted December 13, 2010 Share #10 Posted December 13, 2010 The first buyers got two years on the M9 because Leica UK had a predictable SNAFU in confusing their M9 policy with the M8, which they were trying to unload via a two year Passport bribe. After September or October-ish 2009 the Passport was reverted to one year. And yes it was always an age before your card was sent back, and most likely now it will be even longer due to 're-organisation' in the UK (something most international companies would fast track, but not Leica). The two year passport protection was only on the early models. I'll wait until after Christmas, then give them a ring.
earleygallery Posted December 14, 2010 Share #12 Posted December 14, 2010 I didn't get any post at all for a week due to the snow, and I live in south London (although the snow was particularly bad around here!). On top of that it's the busiest time of the year for the postal service. Allow them some slack for the weather/season.
christakis Posted January 5, 2011 Share #13 Posted January 5, 2011 So, I waited and received passport, but it says M9 Black instead of Silver. I won't be selling the camera before the end of the year so I'm not really miffed about what the passport says as long as I don't have any problems with it in the unfortunate case I need to use it. Do you have any other phone number for me to ring up to check the above instead of 01908256400? Cheers, Chris
andybarton Posted January 6, 2011 Share #14 Posted January 6, 2011 Have you checked their numbers on their website?

Cheers, Chris IIRC 01908256400 is on auto transfer to the new Mayfair Service Dept. @ christakis - the Passport does not include the product code (L10704 - black; L10705 - silver), only the serial number - check that that is correct. It is likely the sub-contracted people doing the passport issuing may have made a simple mistake when typing it out. Passports have been one year for quite some time now. Thanks for the replies fellas. The serial number is correct which is why I don't worry about it. I'll try ringing them up later.
