Bixi Posted September 17, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted September 17, 2009 What an excellent (and early!) surprise to arrive in the mail! Congrats and enjoy. And I see you're going for the out-of-focus look. Hi twittle, Yes, it was an excellent surprise - what a day ... In this case I went for the out-of-focus look. But that's not necessary my style. Some images which are perfectly in focus don't necessary have to be interesting. Out-of-focus captures the atmosphere. At least that's what I'm trying to do with these pics. Cheers, bixi
arthury Posted September 17, 2009 Share #4 Posted September 17, 2009 Wow, buy a US$7K camera to do out-of-focus photography ... you are either pulling our socks or just simply reviving the old genre of photography called Impressionism with a new twist. adan Posted September 17, 2009 Share #5 Posted September 17, 2009 They kind of remind me of Gustave Caillebotte - a street photographer with a brush: Gustave Caillebotte - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
barjohn Posted September 17, 2009 Share #6 Posted September 17, 2009 I think I can get equally sharp pictures out of a $100 camera so for this kind of photography $7K+ is overkill.

phovsho Posted September 17, 2009 Share #8 Posted September 17, 2009 I don't think these images tell us much at all about the M9's technical capabilities, so perhaps the wrong forum. However, IMHO they have more atmosphere than many of the images used here to demonstrate the capability of the camera. I guess we all look for different things. ken_tanaka Posted September 17, 2009 Share #9 Posted September 17, 2009 Cut slack. The guy said he just woke up and got the camera at 6 in the morning. Those blurry snaps very closely resemble what I see at that time of day.
Overgaard Posted September 17, 2009 Share #10 Posted September 17, 2009 Not the type of test shots most of us do as the first thing where we usually test ISO, WB and sharpness. But they do have a lot of atmosphere to them and I can imagine the sound of the M9 alone is worth the 7K.
Bixi Posted September 17, 2009 Author Share #11 Posted September 17, 2009 Hello again, I appreciate all of your thoughts and comments. I don't necessary agree with all of them. But I do see that these images are misplaced in this forum. I guess that I just got all excited since I'm new here. I'm learning the rules. Yes I'm learning ... reven Posted September 17, 2009 Share #16 Posted September 17, 2009 Some really nice images, and a lot better than most of the BS I see around here. But I don't want to get into that.

If you'll ever come to New Zealand let me know! Thanks, Bixi Thank you Bixi. Much appreciated. You've got some great photos too - particularly liked the NY subway series. Shows how tight framing adds impact to an image. Switzerland to NZ is a looong way, but who knows? Enjoy your M9 - still waiting for mine to arrive... jaapv Posted September 17, 2009 Share #18 Posted September 17, 2009 I think I can get equally sharp pictures out of a $100 camera so for this kind of photography $7K+ is overkill. You'd be a clever bloke to do that. The quality of the OOF areas is one of the strengths of Leica lenses, and they have to mount on something, which is preferably full format to show the edge aberrations.Welcome Bixi Don't get flustered by technical fetishists like me

No, no Jaap they need a 1.33 crop to show the sweetspot of the lens* I like these images Bixi - well done! *(kidding people, kidding)
