dcoombs Posted September 17, 2009 Share #22 Posted September 17, 2009 Amazon shows Willoughby's selling for $8,999.00 - in stock and shipping..... Don't know how much credence to put in that. Vensar Try - none. Not the best name on the street...
vensar Posted September 17, 2009 Share #23 Posted September 17, 2009 Try - none. Not the best name on the street... No thanks, I am not going to try. But thank you for the "rating" on Willoughby's. At any rate I am not paying a $2K premium on a camera (over and above the Leica premium). I don't do photography for a living, although photography is an important part of my life. I am happy to bide my time..... and learn from the masters in this forum while I wait. Vensar
Bill W Posted September 17, 2009 Share #24 Posted September 17, 2009 Willoughby's lies lies lies. They do not have any in stock. Not even sure if they are a authorized Leica dealer. Willoughby's has a lot of Leica gear on their site and claim to be an authorize Leica Dealer. Even Amazon claims that the M9 list for $7750 but they will sell it for $6995. They claim it has not been released yet.
erl Posted September 17, 2009 Share #25 Posted September 17, 2009 I paid substantially less than recommended price, even though it was the only one available and could have been 'bid' for. I hadn't even paid a deposit! On principle I never pay the asking price in a retail situation. I did however show the retailer some profit, that is his right. Daniel Ortego Posted September 17, 2009 Share #27 Posted September 17, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Very strange, it's hard enough to part with 7k and I would never pay more than retail. Regards,
gwelland Posted September 17, 2009 Share #28 Posted September 17, 2009 To be honest I'm surprised that there haven't been any personal sellers of the M9 on StealBay or elsewhere who may have got the camera and decided to sell on at a premium while they can. That normally happens with goods in short supply at launch with such a frenzied demand in place. Maybe there have been some sales like this but I haven't seen them personally. I'm not condoning it but that happens.
KM-25 Posted September 17, 2009 Share #29 Posted September 17, 2009 I have not Heard anything that would lead me to believe some are paying for a pecking order so to speak. For the first few days, I was hip to get an M9, but then I got my professional prorities straight, a digital M can and will have to wait for the end of 2010 for me. However, this new tool might have cost me nearly twice that of an M9, but it is so utterly worth it: Kodachrome Project Blog Have fun with that fine tool! anupmc Posted September 17, 2009 Share #31 Posted September 17, 2009 This is good to know. I was told by the people who accepted my preorder as a reason for the missed delivery date. I've seen higher than retail prices quoted elsewhere in this forum that for a moment gave credence to this. Thanks for clarifying guys. I wouldn't put it past some Asian retailers to try and pull this kind of stunts. Mind "outing" which retailer is telling you this? Obviously someone people should avoid
michali Posted September 17, 2009 Share #32 Posted September 17, 2009 I've been hearing that the first M9s were sold to people who were willing to pay a premium, ie over retail price, for their units. May I please ask how true that is? Thanks. Unadulterated garbage! Got mine on the 11th paid EURO6, 6800.00...................just kidding.................it was EURO5, 499.00 & 2 Scan disk 8G cards thrown in. spylaw4 Posted September 17, 2009 Share #33 Posted September 17, 2009 I am actually about to pull myself out of the waiting list. Tell them to go stick it! Good - that's one more for someone keener on it than you.
HetDraakje Posted September 17, 2009 Share #34 Posted September 17, 2009 I imagine if Leica found out they'd be spitting. Why? It's a free economy. I someone is willing to ask a premium, AND if somebody else is willing to pay the price, it's fine by me. The same is also true for the buyer to ask for discounts (or high trade-in prices) AND the seller willing or being able to give it. Again it's a free economy, as it should be for consumer goods. It's a different issue to ask a premium to go first in line instead of the one willing to pay list price (unless it's in the open). Boen Disclaimer: I'm not a seller/entrepeneur, nor willing to pay a premium for a maybe future M9
efftee Posted September 17, 2009 Author Share #35 Posted September 17, 2009 I wouldn't put it past some Asian retailers to try and pull this kind of stunts. Mind "outing" which retailer is telling you this? Obviously someone people should avoid Eh, I'd rather not say. But just to be clear, I did not say that there are stores selling M9s above retail price, I said that more than one sales rep told me that the first sets were sold to people who were willing to pay a premium, which alluded to the delay of my preordered unit as I am not one of those paying above retail price for my M9. Big difference.
