Images seemed rather bluish or, at least, on the really cool end of the spectrum.

What WB were you using?

Also, could you shoot more images using more modern lenses besides the F1 noctilux so that we can have a better feel for things, please? The reason being I am still seeing really soft images since the first day this thing was launched.

Looks like an overcast day to me.

I do think the contrast may be even a bit softer than the M8's through lightroom. I'll have to see files with a compatible C1 to be sure (don't know LR that well).

But I'm not seeing soft files at all... are you sure you mean soft?

Are u doing any USM on these files?

If not, could you apply a reasonable amount, please?

Also, it would be nice to see images captured at the peak MTF of your lenses, like at f/4 or f/5.6. I know that wide-open shots are exciting but seeing the peak resolution would be interesting.

Jamie, yes, I do mean soft.

That portrait is reasonably sharp but not super sharp either. It is probably better than any of the ones released by Leica in their Cuban-boxer-series.

Jackal--thanks for the work you've posted. I'm liking what I'm seeing with the higher ISOs.

Can you please (thank you in advance) shoot some shots *at* the highest ISOs to show what noisy files DO look like from the M9?

Seriously, thanks.

Will

weird !

M8 vs. M9

this is with the

same lens

same distance

same aperture

same shutter

same iso

and pretty much the same WB

same default PP

note that the M9 image is about 0.75 of a stop darker !

and a lot more contrasty with darker blacks

incidentally both cameras metered this value at F4.. no wonder I am finding that I need a bit of overexposure on the compensation

is this just 'sensor character'

(also the M8 image has all sorts of pinkish colour issues because of lack of IR filter)

M9 image, iso 160, 28 Cron at F4, 1/8 sec

Jackal (great shots by the way - really helpful) - I'm also noticing strongly improved metering with the M9 and am having to unlearn some of my habits from the M8. I don't know if others have notice the grey/white/grey stripe on the shutter that is used as the metering spot, compared with the all white on the M8. This + changes in electronics / hardware must be making a difference - what ever, the M9 seems to be giving more accurate centre weighted metering.

sorry, just a crappy corner of my house but this is iso 1600 and 2500 in very low light as asked for

not sure how useable it is, looks pretty bad 100% in the darker continuous gradient areas like walls

50% luminance NR

100% colour NR

lower contrast might mean a broader dynamic range
