luigi bertolotti Posted September 10, 2009 Share #41 Posted September 10, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have to say that many people have been arguing themselves blue in the face (with graphs, figures, examples and so on) for the last two years on this forum that no useful color information whatsoever is lost in the M8's compression scheme. I can barely believe how quickly people turn their coats. I love this portrait, but I absolutely fail to see how anyone can make any serious judgement about the sensor, and the supposed improvement in dynamic range and tonal transitions from a relatively small online jpeg. Jpeg compression itself makes these statements about the 14bit colorspace completely impossible. Come on people - please keep it real. A great shot of a very bewitching subject in beautifully even light. Sorry, my thoughts about 14 bit color space were clearly at all unrelated to the pic of this thread (about which I expressed my impression before)

Rolo Posted September 10, 2009 Share #45 Posted September 10, 2009 Do you see the camera in her eyes? No, but I can see it in everyone else's that's reading this thread. Lovely image Ron. Thanks for doing it and sharing. Clearly spot on focus, lovely tones and a beautiful Paul Strand pose. Lovely. Show me your film version.

leica007 Posted September 10, 2009 Share #47 Posted September 10, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Great shot. reminds me of a Dutch Leica user/ fashion photographer's shot with M8+Noct. Just trying to figure out the perspective , i.e. where were you while taking the photo? the upper portion, i.e. head to nose is perfectly focused, and then the lower part starts going OoF - the creamy bokeh part. I think you were (slightly) below the model's eye level, which also made the portrait more dignified.
Rona!d Posted September 10, 2009 Author Share #48 Posted September 10, 2009 Yes, slightly below the eye level. And her head to body angle was not 90° as you can see at the ears and nose (which in my eyes make the portrait a bit more natural)

JLV Posted September 11, 2009 Share #52 Posted September 11, 2009 Ronald, Stunning picture helped by the unbelievable eyes of the model. Huge 3D effect, fantastic skin tone. Did you do a lot PP? I can't wait to receive my M9! All the best Jean-Luc

Rona!d Posted September 12, 2009 Author Share #55 Posted September 12, 2009 Just delightful, Ronald. I remember clearly when you posted a shot of the same lovely lady when the M8 was new! Oh yes, she suffers under my test shots. Fortunately Leica can´t bring a new M every year.
Rona!d Posted September 12, 2009 Author Share #56 Posted September 12, 2009 Did you do a lot PP? Jean-Luc, just the standard switches for this effect, a little de-saturation etc. My main aim while doing this shot was testing the correct focus of the lenses. Later i thought it could also make a nice photo.
