jacarape Posted September 7, 2009 Share #1 Â Posted September 7, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Referencing the now infamous brochure, the M7/MP line seems to be stagnant. Â The only thing I could have hoped for was new a shutter for the M7 going to 1/4000 sec. Â The MP is perfect, not needing improvement? I would really like a self timer there though but I assume impossible for size constrictions. Â Any other thoughts?
Advertisement Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 Hi jacarape, Take a look here What does 9/9/09 mean for film folks?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Double Negative Posted September 7, 2009 Share #2 Â Posted September 7, 2009 Buy more film. Â ...and hold onto your camera because a lot of M8 owners hoping to go full frame with the M9 will be looking for earlier Ms when they see the price tag! bill Posted September 7, 2009 Share #3 Â Posted September 7, 2009 I can imagine a blip in the sales of film cameras as second bodies once the M8 crowd discover the joys of FF shooting. Suddenly their M8s will feel "cramped" in comparison. Expect to see far more of the Digi-crowd toting a film body as a "backup" Â Regards, Â Bill
aesop Posted September 7, 2009 Share #4  Posted September 7, 2009 Referencing the now infamous brochure, the M7/MP line seems to be stagnant. The only thing I could have hoped for was new a shutter for the M7 going to 1/4000 sec.  The MP is perfect, not needing improvement? I would really like a self timer there though but I assume impossible for size constrictions.  Any other thoughts?    ...stagnant? As a film M user, 09/09/09 is just fine for me.  Faster shutter speeds would be nice but it is not critical - there is enough leeway between aperture, shutter, film and technique to address the sort of 1/4000th second scenarios you allude to. More important to me is the robustness of the shutter (and camera) over a sustained period of time. None of that 3-year product cycle nonsense here.  Re: self-timers, you are right - the space used for a self-timer in the M4 was allocated to the battery compartment in the M6. If you really have to shoot with a self-timer or remotely, there are other solutions out there. Search the forum or PM me if you need further details.  One more thing - I don't know about you, but I am excited about the X1.
treeplanter Posted September 7, 2009 Share #5 Â Posted September 7, 2009 What does 9/9/09 mean to film users? Well, Apple is going to release some new iPods on the 9th, that's about it. Â Jim B.

MPerson Posted September 7, 2009 Share #7 Â Posted September 7, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am going down to the south coast for a week, shooting with my M2, MP and D2 - and some peace and quiet!
treeplanter Posted September 7, 2009 Share #8 Â Posted September 7, 2009 Not quite. Leica Camera AG - Live Webcast on 9/9/2009 Â Will Leica be introducing any new film cameras on the 9th? Everything I've read so far has been 100% digital. Â Jim B.
JBA Posted September 8, 2009 Share #9 Â Posted September 8, 2009 In practical terms, it means that if you also want to shoot digital, your lenses will be their proper focal lengths and you won't need to mess with IR filters.
hamey Posted September 8, 2009 Share #10 Â Posted September 8, 2009 What ever Leica releases it doesn't matter to me, though I am interested in the technology. As Slide Film is still my primary, Digital capture is secondary to me. Â Good luck to them. Â Ken.
chris_livsey Posted September 8, 2009 Share #11 Â Posted September 8, 2009 It means, according to the leaked brochure, the continued availability of new film Leicas, M7 & MP,a good thing and the possibility of an increase in the number of film bodies being traded in for the new M9. I have lost count of the film posters saying " I will wait for full frame digital". Then it depends on your viewpoint. If a large/ish number of film bodies are placed on the market prices should fall. That is either good, buying opportunities, or bad, trade in values of your current model/s falls. kivis Posted September 8, 2009 Share #12 Â Posted September 8, 2009 It is a good thing. All Leica film users should want Leica to be a successful company.
dsj Posted September 8, 2009 Share #13 Â Posted September 8, 2009 How about having a digital as a backup for film camera. Might preowned M8s become incredibly cheap now that everybodys wants a M9?
iridium7777 Posted September 8, 2009 Share #14 Â Posted September 8, 2009 i might consider doing an even swap of my m6ttl for an m8 and finally giving a digital rf a try. Â
danmitch Posted September 8, 2009 Share #15 Â Posted September 8, 2009 Perhaps increased demand for longer focal length lenses with the loss of the "crop factor" for digital users.
Janet Posted September 9, 2009 Share #16 Â Posted September 9, 2009 It means that the M9 will just about equal a well scanned astia or ektar film image.

thomasw_ Posted September 9, 2009 Share #18 Â Posted September 9, 2009 It is a good thing. All Leica film users should want Leica to be a successful company. Â Yes I agree with this, as it means to me that Leica will keep making their very fine M mount lenses....which, of course, are of interest to me as a film shooter who uses M mount lenses. think Posted September 10, 2009 Share #20 Â Posted September 10, 2009 I get it now. I was confused with the 09/09 in relationship to the 09/11 thing and assumed planes were expected to fly into Leica factory or something but no just leica announcing new digital toys. Can I ask why this is on a film forum? Â Can I ask why you felt it necessary to post such a vapid and insensitive response? Â As one who lost several friends and associates in that "9/11 thing" I have to say that it remains an open wound especially as its anniversary approaches. Â Filters aren't just for light.
