Advertisement Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 Hi Ecaton, Take a look here X1 discussion thread (merged). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Les Lammers Posted September 10, 2009 Share #242 Posted September 10, 2009 Here's a bold prediction. (not really)... Not everyone will love this camera... except those that own it. If you don't get it, don't buy it. Those that get it will be taking photos that others will be marveling at for digital generations to come. As I said earlier (view finder disappointment aside)... this is going to be a camera that those who "get it" will develop a love affair that will produce images others will only dream off. I'm quite confident Leica heard and read between the lines and have got it right. Made in Germany. Made for Photographers. Made for Leica users. I feel they've invested this money with a long term view of the future. I could be wrong.. but I really don't think so. JT If the image quality is there...this is what I have been waitng for. Ozkar Posted September 10, 2009 Share #243 Posted September 10, 2009 Has anyone read reidreviews review on the X1 and seen the samples yet?? I'm not a member but want to know what it does well etc, Sean Reid's review is not a review. It is much the same information as is freely available. Take a look at LL: The Luminous Landscape

thrid Posted September 11, 2009 Share #245 Posted September 11, 2009 In principle I'm all in favour of EVFs, except that a bright-line OVF lets you see outside the frame too, which for many shots is important. In practice, the latency, refresh rates and dynamic range aren't there for me yet. EVFs OK for static subjects in easy light, but if there's a lot of contrast I can't see the details in the shadows or highlights or both (depending what the AGC is doing) and especially in dim light they always lag vital milliseconds behind the action. Exactly. At the moment EVF is not going to cut it for serious work. In short I want an EVF that gives sharp unsmeared images at 50Hz refresh rate in candle-light ... and we're not there yet. I'm guessing you will need an EVF running a lot higher than 50Hz to avoid the lag. My guess would be a minimum of 250Hz, maybe higher.
Guest Posted September 11, 2009 Share #246 Posted September 11, 2009 IMO now buyers can only hope for 4 things from LEICA engeneers: 2 software inprovements, one minor one major and 2 external hardware improvements, one major one minor: raw files only AN OPTION TO HAVE THE LENS ALWAY IN WORKING POSITION ONLY A LENS HOOD (Digilux 4, Ricoh GX200 etc. type) as soon as the X1 comes out battery charger that takes X1 AND M8&9 batteries, (if they are different. Same battery -> big kudos )

daveleo Posted September 11, 2009 Share #248 Posted September 11, 2009 delete all my previous complaints about the strap lugs being too far forward. there's a video in another posting that shows the lugs to be very nicely located.
earleygallery Posted September 11, 2009 Share #249 Posted September 11, 2009 As said I am not a subscriber so I can't read what he has said! Thank you though for such an obvious answer to my question Well it would be bad form for someone to subscribe and then post a summary of Sean's review elsewhere wouldn't it? If you want to read reid, subscribe.
vicpeh Posted September 11, 2009 Share #250 Posted September 11, 2009 delete all my previous complaints about the strap lugs being too far forward. there's a video in another posting that shows the lugs to be very nicely located. Couldn't help but notice that the M9 have lugs in the same approximate position too. Anyway for me, due to compact size of the X1, I intend to use a wrist strap on the right and use the left lug for hanging the lens cap just like the way on my DL4. hexar Posted September 11, 2009 Share #251 Posted September 11, 2009 I have read that x1 has HIGH SPEED MODE AF. What is this ? why would the camera not be always in high speed mode ?
nhabedi Posted September 11, 2009 Share #252 Posted September 11, 2009 I have read that x1 has HIGH SPEED MODE AF. What is this ? why would the camera not be always in high speed mode ? My guess would be that the slower mode is more accurate which probably only matters wide open?

miakosan Posted September 19, 2009 Share #254 Posted September 19, 2009 It is an "Image Stabilizer" on the camera's menu, but all published technical specifications don't show it. So, what do you think? Is it just printed mistake?
