Would you mind sharing what you think of this treatment? I'm experimenting with some pictorial effects.

I tone and blur a lot, but usually selectively and lightly. I was going for more atmosphere here, but maybe I've gone too far? As always, appreciate your views.

John,

This is not an easy assignment and I'm sure that in the end you'll just have to find your own way! But for what it's worth:

The left side is pulling my eye away from the centre, as I think it's too dark. I'd like to see some structure in these shadows, just a tad.

The centre tree (the screen topped lighter small tree) could use some punch, to place it more prominently in the landscape (now it is somewhat flat and fading against the trees in the background).

The toning is purely a matter of taste. If you're going for a faded old photo atmosphere though, I'd desaturise the warm browns more than you've done now. But again: your taste prevails.

I'd suggest lighter tones in the top left; the shadow is a dense, flat black with no definition. It's a bit crude and to my eye makes the image unbalanced, since the rest works with subtle and measured tones.

This was my thought too - the rest of the images looks fine (given that its via the web) but the large area of abrupt and dense black does no favours to the picture.

I concur with much what's been already posted and my comments are highly subjective. Overall I like the photo. However, the top left is dark and pulls the eye away. And the toning is a little heavy in the brown. Lastly, I would like it sharper, but that's just personal preference :)

hello! imho:

i would lighten up the main tree. i feel its a tad too dark(or not enough contrast) it just needs to "pop"

more. also i think its just alittle on the brown side, id move it more to the cool side. but just a very little.

i think the image is wonderful.

btw how did you do this if youre willing to share.

best melissa

I like the way the eye moves into the photo. A little lighter on the tree to the left would be ok.

What I would like to see is some more blur on the little tree behind the one in the center, to give more separation (pseudo dof).

The effect is excellent. Great pic.

BTW, M8 or M9?
