Advertisement Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 Hi daveleo, Take a look here D2 in Red. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
John Thawley Posted September 3, 2009 Share #2 Posted September 3, 2009 Damn you!!!! That is really nice. I think Luigi can match a strap to that too. Enjoy... it's a fine looking instrument. JT
krabat Posted September 3, 2009 Share #3 Posted September 3, 2009 The "old Lady" in Red... very nice... A real eye-catcher!
daveleo Posted September 3, 2009 Author Share #4 Posted September 3, 2009 thanks guys .... the old lady is very pretty today indeed ..... and i am feeling guilty about getting all excited about the new "Leica chick" being rumored. John.... i'm checking out Luigi's site .... he is in Roma ! .... i am going there next month .... going to see if i can drop in on him .... his straps look just great. lemalk Posted September 3, 2009 Share #5 Posted September 3, 2009 It's interesting to me that the D2 may indeed have a longer usability than the M8 now that the M9 is on its way. D2s are, what, going on 5 and a half years while the M8 is barely crossing the 3 year barrier and already being seen as "old hat." I'm glad I've got my LC1 - it has its place and its limits, and I don't doubt I'll be using it for a while... or at least until someone can "update" its internals and keep the form, function and operation the same. RASO Posted September 3, 2009 Share #6 Posted September 3, 2009 Davelo, Superb!!! Did you use the same company as John Thawley?
daveleo Posted September 3, 2009 Author Share #7 Posted September 3, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) RASO yes i used the same folks as John T. did. they also recovered my konica hexar about 6 months ago and that turned out pretty (but not like the D2 !). this is their "indian red kid skin" leather..... and it *feels* as good as it looks. Overgaard Posted September 3, 2009 Share #8 Posted September 3, 2009 I like the texture look of the skin. Believe it feels real nice. It has a soft and rough looking texture that goes well with the camera design. I have a hard time getting used to the Digilux 2 not with the original black look, but this looks moderate red and I like it. I wonder how long the Digilux 2 will be around. When I look at the pictures the Digilux 1 produced/s, those are not good enough. But sometimes the Diglux 2 pictures look like they were made with a middle format camera, and very often I shoot Digilux 2 along with R9/DMR ... and not so few times I have to check the exif data to see which camera did it. It's remarkable. One can only hope Leica will update it, without changing a thing (except the MP, AF-speed and buffer).
John Thawley Posted September 3, 2009 Share #9 Posted September 3, 2009 thanks guys .... the old lady is very pretty today indeed ..... and i am feeling guilty about getting all excited about the new "Leica chick" being rumored. John.... i'm checking out Luigi's site .... he is in Roma ! .... i am going there next month .... going to see if i can drop in on him .... his straps look just great. The surprise of Luigi's straps is they have an ever-so-slight elasticity to them at length. Over your shoulder (tourist style) they are incredibly comfortable yet secure. The leather arrives soft as if you'd owned it for a lifetime. Extremely well done. JT
lemalk Posted September 3, 2009 Share #10 Posted September 3, 2009 Dave or John T - Do you know if this company also does re-covers for a Digilux 3? The grip is starting to peel and I wouldn't even begin to know how to replace or repair it. Any information would be helpful. Thanks!
daveleo Posted September 3, 2009 Author Share #11 Posted September 3, 2009 lemalk ..... here is their web page: Cameraleather.com supported cameras note that the D2 (or D3) is not listed as a "suuported camera" , but John T. got them to give the D2 a shot (which kicked-off this new trend)..... i see their list is dated december.2008. it looks like the M8 they have shown on that page has the "indian red" kid skin that they used on my D2. you might just drop them an e-mail and see what they say. lemalk Posted September 4, 2009 Share #12 Posted September 4, 2009 Thanks, daveleo - and congratulations on the D2's new covering. It looks like it'll hold up nicely.
pitti Posted September 4, 2009 Share #13 Posted September 4, 2009 Wow, this looks very nice and much better than my blue version. I was undecided between blue or red. The red color harmonize very fine with black lens. Congratulations! Regards Peter
joppepop Posted September 4, 2009 Share #14 Posted September 4, 2009 Ohhh, really nice work there. The red skin blends very well with the polished metal look, and I can imagine that it feels good to hold as well. Btw, how do you keep those babies in such fine condition? I have had my Digilux 3 for some two years now and the metal that turned out to be plastic doesn't show a bit as nice patina as a well-used camera made of metal (read brass). Mine has scratches all over the body, and where it's wearied most, the white plastic shows through. Maybe I should pimp my camera and paint those parts in a metal coloured paint. Would be pretty neat, huh? Brass won't do, though......should have had a black L1 instead. ;-)
daytrader Posted September 4, 2009 Share #15 Posted September 4, 2009 I was thinking of having cameraleather do my d2 in black lizard. How long does it usually take to get the camera back? Thanks in advance!
pleeson Posted September 4, 2009 Share #16 Posted September 4, 2009 While my personal preference is for the stock look, that really looks like an excellent job! Also, I have little doubt that a D2 purchased within the last year will hold resale value better than the M8....
roguewave Posted September 4, 2009 Share #17 Posted September 4, 2009 Congrats. I'd say you're echoing Jimi Hendrix in "Letting my Freak Flag Fly". It always amazes me when people comment that I still use a film camera when I have my D2 in hand. She's a classy little number.
John Thawley Posted September 4, 2009 Share #18 Posted September 4, 2009 I was thinking of having cameraleather do my d2 in black lizard. How long does it usually take to get the camera back? Thanks in advance! That's a loaded question. LOL - Morgan is a great guy and does an excellent job. I emphasize... EXCELLENT. But, he can be busy... and he's rural. I'd give it 3-6 weeks on a good day. BTW... I have one in black lizard. Lovely... but not my favorite. At the end of the day... it's black. It's just not that special. I'd opt for a chocolate brown (like the Hermes edition) ... or dark green, navy blue... believe me, in person they are stunning and ELEGANT. I love my tan one and use it far more than I thought it would. For me, these camera's are Sunday drivers. They're everything you'd hope them to be and they're great conversation pieces. It's a lot of fun to share the camera with others.... and they always ask. JT
Overgaard Posted September 4, 2009 Share #19 Posted September 4, 2009 Wonder how white leather in the same quality as this red would look like ... hmm

JT i have to agree. black is the serious pro "look"..... it's a non-color, generates no emotion, attracts no attention (which is most often good). but for personal use, a red (blue, green, grey, whatever) D2 hanging off your shoulder looks mighty fine and sparks some chit-chat.
