Andy Barton's Reasonableness

With the advent of the M9 near, the M8 Forum certainly has gotten livelier, hasn't it? That's a good thing, as two or three months ago, threads seemed to languish, gambits tried and quickly dying. But as things have gotten livelier on the Forum, there's been touchiness and bombast and the occasional bad behaviour. And if you read the Forum closely, you can't help but notice what a great job Andy Barton has been doing, reasonably offering advice to members to maybe pipe down, or play a little nicer with other members; encouraging the enthusiasm we all are exhibiting toward the M9, since what harm does it do to speculate, endlessly, about microdevelopments? Moderators are supposed to... moderate. Not throw people out, or yank their threads to the back room, or use a bludgeon to enforce "the rules." Andy is very much a moderator, someone who shares our love and enthusiasm for Leica photography, and this seems a good moment to thank him for the gentle, but firm way he encourages wide-ranging, but civil discourse on the M8 Forum.

Andy, thank you. And may Santa drop an M9 off at your doorstep. JB

Blimey.

And there was me sitting here with my sandwich expecting a knife in the back

Ha ha! :)

Thanks guys - ALL the Moderators try their best to make this the best photography forum on the internet bar none. We don't always get it right, but we do try very hard to do so.

A forum is only as good as the people that contribute to it. We have our, ahem, "characters" :) and we have the odd troll. We have spammers who don't last very long. We have the odd disagreement and the odd falling out and the odd bit of personal un-necessaryness. I'm afraid that is inevitable in any large group such as this, but I hope that when this happens we deal with it effectively and quickly.

But, we also have a world-wide group of people who really care about their photography, their kit, and the company that makes it possible. And that is what makes it a pleasure to be a Moderator here - most of the time ;)

This is a very exciting time for Leica. A company that has its challenges, but also the power to surprise us when the mood takes it. I am hoping that next Wednesday will be one of those times, where they bring us the digital M that most people wanted 3 1/2 years ago, but also, maybe, something extra that we haven't foreseen.

I have taken Wednesday afternoon off as Annual Leave in anticipation.

I'll second that, especially with Andy's 'real life' irritations at the moment. Though I feel sure there are times he would like to pick up a kipper and give someone a proper slap! He has said many times he waits 24 hours or so to see developments before acting and it works well. If not he quietly and resonably sorts it out and is always ready to give an explanation if asked.

I'm just thankful that the 'characters' are here and not my neighbours.

I couldn't do it, I would run out of ammo for the AK47 regularly. :D

I think Andy does an almost impossible job very well.I fully agree with the first post.

Please keep up the good work.

Brian:)

I very much agree. Despite having had the odd disagreement I think Andy is doing a super job, does not get paid for it, and takes a lot of stick. I hope that he gets the M9 and 21mm gift as he sure deserves it. Keep up the excellent work. The moderator job seems to be a very thankless no win task
