Advertisement Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 Hi pauledell, Take a look here Fungi. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stuny Posted September 1, 2009 Share #2 Posted September 1, 2009 Paul - Though I like the subject, framing and detail, the unsaturated colors bother me. I suspect I'd like it better as B&W or with saturated color.
pauledell Posted September 2, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted September 2, 2009 Stuart, Thanks for your advice. This is as far as I would like to increase the saturation for color. Paul
pauledell Posted September 2, 2009 Author Share #4 Posted September 2, 2009 Stuart, This is the b&w conversion. Paul
stuny Posted September 2, 2009 Share #5 Posted September 2, 2009 Paul - I think they're both much better.
roguewave Posted September 2, 2009 Share #6 Posted September 2, 2009 Maybe an extract will allow you to see it in yet another color.
pauledell Posted September 2, 2009 Author Share #7 Posted September 2, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Ben, I am not familiar with the types of mushrooms that are toxic, but if I had this one for lunch as a meal, perhaps I would have no problems seeing different colors and saturation of the print would be naturally brilliant. Paul I'm not a mycologist but if I recall correctly they don't look this I like in B&W.
pauledell Posted September 2, 2009 Author Share #9 Posted September 2, 2009 I'm not a mycologist but if I recall correctly they don't look this I like in B&W. MV8, Actually, the coloration of this fungi was like my first, unvarnished version. It did have the red tint around the edges. Frankly, I should have done this in b&w on the first post to begin with. Thanks for your observations. Paul
MV8 Posted September 3, 2009 Share #10 Posted September 3, 2009 Paul, It was my attempt at humor regrading magic mushrooms. I'm sure your photograph represents what the mushroom looks like.
pauledell Posted September 3, 2009 Author Share #11 Posted September 3, 2009 Paul,It was my attempt at humor regrading magic mushrooms. I'm sure your photograph represents what the mushroom looks like. MV8, Thanks. I took no offense at your comment. Sometimes compromise is needed. Actually, I like the b&w version the most and as I said, the first version was probably the most accurate color of the mushroom but was rather bland in overall color. azzo Posted September 3, 2009 Share #12 Posted September 3, 2009 Paul, Superb in b&w.
vdb Posted September 3, 2009 Share #13 Posted September 3, 2009 Love the B&W Paul. My only suggestion: saute with lots of garlic:)
pauledell Posted September 3, 2009 Author Share #14 Posted September 3, 2009 Ivan and Virgil, Thanks. I was originally looking at doing this in b&w but went with the color version. Virgil, I only eat mushrooms that come from the supermarket. Paul
farnz Posted September 5, 2009 Share #15 Posted September 5, 2009 Paul, I like both colour and b&w versions but I prefer the b&w version because of the excellent conversion you've done, which particularly brings the grass to life. I agree with Virgil: sauteed in butter, lemon juice, garlic and black pepper with a stout rolling pin handy to dissuade would-be diners from trespassing on one's enjoyment. : Pete. allamande Posted September 11, 2009 Share #17 Posted September 11, 2009 I would also add a splash of dry sherry. The BW has a lot going for it. Ece
