Wonderful and moving portrait, with the certiticate of King George VI.

These fellows always elicit my admiration and deep gratitude.

When I was a little boy, in the 70-ies, I was enthralled by Douglas Bader's story.

What a noble face here…

Even if it's the theme, with the chair, the plaid and George's name,

picture's a bit on the reddish/yellowish side though… ;)

Rob, Something different from you. I like it.

The warm cast of your original works, especially with that blanket pulled up and that expression--just waking up? I imagine you got a few shots of him, anymore?

Hel-Stampes' version really has another feel to it, starker. Not a bad interpretation.

Thanks. The warm yellow was a decision right or wrong, though many of the colours are closer to naturals than the blue alternative. Anyone wants to turn it into any colour that suits them the easiest way is hit CTRL-M in Photoshop, touch the white picker to a white spot, the black picker to an obvious black, then hunt around the image with the mid tones picker till you get something you prefer. I use corel so I do something else.

It is very low light and unposed, unarranged, and I just crammed best I could under the circumstances. With very low watt incandescent behind to the left on the bedside, a bit of late afternoon natural to the high left side, and fluoro flooding in from down the corridor to the right. He is sitting in the deep shadows with no room to move. In the original the differing light sources are very evident, and I evened out the jaundiced pallors of the lower face, but left the whole thing as warm but faded compensated kind of look. If it doesnt work then thats my fault. If I was a real photographer I would probably use a filter and a faster film, manage the lighting and use a bounce fill.

Reasonably confident, Willam 'A' Saunders. Googing though found this, but its possibly innacurate rather than referring to someone else, because I know he survived a crash, well two prangs, in one of those planes at that time probably when he was flight sergeant or something, and that is his commission hanging on the wall, which l think let him into Hurricanes. I mean you dont interview these guys, you chat, sometimes you get told stuff, file it away, and it gets added to later.

One things for sure ... I aint no Martin Parr.

Then you would not have been able to chat with him...I'm sure he likes talking to someone more than watching some strange photog' walk about the room setting things up or constantly trying to get the gear set.

Maybe not an intention, but this does seem a bit sad, for me. The warm cast, I think, just adds to that. Along with the blanket, which seems like a protective shelter. But for me it's the 'commission' hanging on the wall that seals it all. It's not up high on some other wall. It's eye level, right next to his chair. The one he probably waits on all the time.

You cram well.

Amado

edit: in my response to your quote, don't go taking it the wrong way thinking I meant you not a photog'. On the contrary my friend.
