jaapv Posted August 27, 2009 Share #2 Posted August 27, 2009 I think we should have a sticky on the forum somewhere for stolen gear. Commiserations, I hope you were insured.
patackroyd Posted August 27, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted August 27, 2009 Yes it is insured, however I think my house contents insurer thought I was nuts paying so much money for a camera. Makes me feel like an insurance fraudster. Oh well, life goes on (I suppose) Pat
earleygallery Posted August 27, 2009 Share #4 Posted August 27, 2009 Bad luck. Make sure you e mail Leica UK and Solms with the details too (in case someone needs to send it in for repair at some point) and I would also send e mails around to all the UK Leica dealers / specialists. Also keep an eye on M8's for sale on e bay!
patackroyd Posted August 27, 2009 Author Share #5 Posted August 27, 2009 I have emailed all the dealers but I did not think about Leica UK. thanks for the tip, I will do it now. Pat
chris_tribble Posted August 27, 2009 Share #6 Posted August 27, 2009 Commiserations. The bummer with this sort of thing is that the idiots who took it will have no idea of its value - they may even dump it think it's too "old" an not as good as a panasonycanon P&S. Sorry - I reckon the others have given the best advice.
farnz Posted August 27, 2009 Share #7 Posted August 27, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Pat, Sorry to hear about your burglary but at least you're not harmed. Material items can be replaced. Pete.
Andrew Spackman Posted August 27, 2009 Share #8 Posted August 27, 2009 Very sorry to hear about the burglary. Commiserations. The bummer with this sort of thing is that the idiots who took it will have no idea of its value - they may even dump it think it's too "old"... Chris is right. Back in 1984 I was burgled and the thieves took various items including an M2 with f/2 Summicron. The next morning a neighbour called round who had found a discarded plastic bag with the Leica and lens. And they are still working to this day. (The only things I didn't recover were a vacuum cleaner and an old cricket bat.) Andrew
batmobile Posted August 27, 2009 Share #9 Posted August 27, 2009 Sorry to hear of your loss. I have a photo of my camera kit and ser numbers in case insures try to quibble. It always amazes me how they will accept a high premium for lots of kit but the doubt you ever had it if you make a claim years later! You should get new replacement kit, but it would be nice to see the culprits brought to justice. Seems unlikely
adli Posted August 27, 2009 Share #10 Posted August 27, 2009 On the positive side, if you want a M9, you won't have the hassle of selling your M8 :-)
