scott kirkpatrick Posted August 20, 2009 Share #1 Posted August 20, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) In late July, 2009, our home in Jerusalem was broken into. The thieves swept up three camera bags plus a black M8 classic model (s/n 3199xxx) with a Zeiss 21/2.8 Biogon. One of the camera bags contained a nearly unused Fuji XT (the Hasselblad XPan) with the 45 and 90 mm lenses that I had gotten from Michael Reichman's unused goodies sale, and was doing a project with. The other two, Nova bags, contained an Olympus E-3, an E-1, and 11-22, 14-54, 50/2.0, 25/2.8, 50-200 lenses, plus an FL-50 flash and an EC14 extender. I have reported the M8's serial to Leica and to the local distributor. Any other suggestions?. I don't know whether a fence would use E- bay or local camera shops. I am not skilled in monitoring E-bay sales, so any tips will be appreciated. If one of you sees a constellation of equipment for sale somewhere which matches this collection, please PM me. thanks, scott

Shootist Posted August 20, 2009 Share #3 Posted August 20, 2009 I would publish the full number here. Yeah post the full number. I just recently sold a black M8 with the serial # starting with 3199, it kind of gave me a startle to read that number. But the one I had came directly from Leica USA in NJ. fotografr Posted August 20, 2009 Share #5 Posted August 20, 2009 That really sucks! I think the best thing would be to publish a full list with serial numbers here and on the Rangefinder forum, then ask people to be alert to the sale of any of the items. ho_co Posted August 20, 2009 Share #7 Posted August 20, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Good luck, Scott. The loss of equipment is one thing, but the feeling of violation is just as strong.
carstenw Posted August 20, 2009 Share #8 Posted August 20, 2009 I am really sorry to hear that; I hope you had insurance. Maybe concentrate on the Fuji XT; that would be an extremely rare item outside of Japan. Also check local pawn shops and camera stores. Isn't it Fuji TX-1 or TX-2, by the way? JLV Posted August 20, 2009 Share #9 Posted August 20, 2009 Scott, I am very sorry to hear that and I second Brend suggestion to post full numbers in as many forums as possible. The burglaries in Jerusalem are a pain in the neck no to say something else. I am very often there and never saw any other Leica M8, so it should be a visible item if it comes out in the market. I wish you good luck and hope you have a good insurance. All the best, Jean-Luc
