Advertisement Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 Hi Steve Ash, Take a look here D-Lux 4 Underwater Housing. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
sjchew Posted August 13, 2009 Share #2 Posted August 13, 2009 This site names several underwater housing units for the D-lux 4. I haven't try any of them, but it's a start. Underwater housing options for Leica D-Lux 4 | Leica Rumors
stuny Posted August 13, 2009 Share #3 Posted August 13, 2009 If you are just thinking of shallow water situations the Ewa marine (the last one in sjchew's linked post above) will be adequate. But if you are thinking of SCUBA you will need something much more substantial, such as the others in that link. Not only that, but an external flash (the longer wavelengths of light are absorbed by a surprisingly small amount of water, leaving you with blue photos without the flash). You’ll also need a base plate to connect to an arm for the flash, an attachment to the arm for the flash and a cable from the flash to the enclosure – the enclosure will have a cable built in going to the hot shoe of the camera. If you are planning on doing SCUBA with this kit I strongly advise you not to even try it until you have completely mastered buoyancy control. Trying to use the camera while doing everything else necessary for safe, responsible diving is difficult. There are also some things you’ll need to know regarding both using the kit (underwater photography in many ways is quite different from terrestrial photography), and in protecting your camera by how you configure the kit before each dive. BTW: By now Panasonic may have developed an enclosure for the LX3 version of your camera. Their enclosures are quite good and relatively inexpensive. Steve Ash Posted August 13, 2009 Author Share #4 Posted August 13, 2009 Thank you very much both of you. This site is a really nice resource with great people. Actually I do not own a D-Lux 4 but this valueable info I will forward to a colleague who for sure will highly appreciate your help. Kind regards Steve
woody Posted August 13, 2009 Share #5 Posted August 13, 2009 I have that waterproof bag and it's practically useless. The case gets in the way of the wide angle and it was almost never situated well in there.
tollie Posted August 14, 2009 Share #6 Posted August 14, 2009 Has anyone seen an underwater image produced by the D-lux 4? I'd be very interested. Underwater, the wide angle would be quite useful...
stuny Posted August 14, 2009 Share #7 Posted August 14, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Todd - If you check my site you'll see many images taken with a lesser Pana-Leica (the Panasonic version of the C-Lux-2), and the wide angle, zoom and macro were all very useful. Check the Borneo set of dive images, which I think start on the 4th page.
tollie Posted August 14, 2009 Share #8 Posted August 14, 2009 Stu, Thanks for the link. I had looked at your site a while ago and I'm delighted that you pointed me back. Seriously wonderful photographs. I suppose it's a great reminder that it is the eye not the camera that makes for great photography.
yarayah Posted August 23, 2009 Share #9 Posted August 23, 2009 Hi Steve, i have asked my colleague, he uses the 10bar underwater housing and is very satisfied with it. If you or your friend like to test it, you can go diving with him. Please go to Foto Frankenberg in Essen and ask for Christoph, there you can also buy this housing.
