Dying forum?

At the moment of writing, four(!) out of the seven last threads are about M9 rumors.

Is there so little interest of discussing the M8 in this forum that rumor makers make up for more than half of the space?

I certainly don't like this development....

Could we at least put all the M9 talk in one thread, leaving the rest for M8 for which this forum actually is for?

It's good news then. It means that Leica users are happy, and don't have many outstanding issues with M8.

There is lots of interest in M8 results in the Photo Forum, just a click or two away. Certainly there the happy users do post, and every day as well.

You are right abut the rumours, and they turn in circles too. Yawn indeed!

Why does that mean the forum is dying?

The M9 is of very great interest to most M8 users, and the M8 is now an established, mature product, so generates a lot less of the "new product" forum traffic.

If/when the M9 comes along, it has been suggested to Andreas that this sub-section be re-named "Digital Rangefinders", so that the title would then more accurately reflect the content.

But, seeing as how there is no M9 yet...

The subject was meant to be a bit provocative, but the message was meant to be that there is were little substance in all theese rumor threads, and to me, the lack of substance and repetition of circling rumors and wishes for M9 is of limited interest. Few of the threads actually brings something new to the table.

Yes, please - all the M9 speculation in just the one self-contained thread...until there is some well grounded information and then that can be the starting gun to open things right up again. If Scary and Frank's gratuitous off-topic threads are deemed worth moving to other parts of the forum (to the trash would be fine by me) then why not be similarly tough with the proliferating M9 rumours and round them up into one place?

The M8 forum is not dying at all. IMHO the M9 speculation belongs to the M8 forum because both are digital M cameras. I believe that most of the M8 users want to discuss about the upcoming digital M. After announcing the M9 the M8 forum should be renamed as the "M Digital" Forum.

I, for one, would be happy to merge all the M9 rumour discussions into one big one.

I still think it's most relevant to leave it in this sub-section though, otherwise there will just be more rumour threads started here anyway.

I remember the Leica Digital forum full of speculation about the M8 starting six months before the announcement. It didn't bother me at all. Actually, it helped placing my order early enough to receive one of the very first M8.

There is nothing wrong with the speculation about the M9. Most of the technical speculations in this forum are feasible today. Speculations and factual discussions are entertaining me and help killing some time until the next M is announced.

I'm a happy user and I post here. :D I post here (and read daily) because I learn "stuff". Talking about an M9 does not bother me. It's fun to speculate.

What I don't like - and maybe this should be put in another thread - is when someone who doesn't even own an M8/M8.2 comes in and tells us everything that's wrong with the camera.

If/When the M9 comes along I like andybarton's idea . . . Digital Rangefinder or Digital M would be a good name.

But surely not if it spawns ten duplicated parallel threads within the first week. Contain it (for now) within just a single main thread, so as not to overwhelm the forum, and everybody's happy...no?

How about starting your own thread with substance? SCNR.

At least I don't start ten threads about the same subject. My point is that every other thread is about M9 rumors the (in my opinion) more interesting threads are kind a drowned in M9 threads. One M9 thread would be perfectly fine.

Its called the allure of consumerism and there are some big spenders on the digital end of this forum. The whole thing is out of control. One of the moderators is a participant in these discussions so there is nothing that can be done other than avoid it. That is one thing I like about websites where rumors are not allowed. It keeps the forums on point with reality.

The photo side is where some (not that many) show what they actually do with the camera - rather than what the would do if they only had ff, no IR issues, better low light ability.
