rosuna Posted August 5, 2009 Share #7 Posted August 5, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) That design is a complete disaster. I wish and hope to see a minimalist design, slightly different from the current design for the M8. The 4 modal buttons of the S2 should be translated to the the M9 back. Maybe a wheel, and that's all.

marknorton Posted August 5, 2009 Share #11 Posted August 5, 2009 A report in this week's Amateur Photographer, the habitual mouth-piece of Leica in the UK, says they neither confirm nor deny reports of an M9 being announced on 09/09/09, which isn't very helpful. I would have thought they wouldn't want to do anything to divert attention from the S2. Now is not the time to have €30m of investment shunted into some backwater by an incremental change to the Digital M, especially if it's not immediately available. Leica should hold the M9 until there's something to say, show and sell. As the little old lady in the Wendy's adverts used to say, "where's the beef?". Well, what if they did have something to show and sell on September 9th? I know you don't believe it, and I know I haven't a clue (I'll be in Crete anyway). What I'm pretty sure about though is that they won't announce an M9 until it's almost ready to ship - stands to reason, as it would definitely impact sales of the M8. so - if there is an announcement on September 9th I'd guess it was of a 'ready' camera. . . . wouldn't you? Jamie Roberts Posted August 5, 2009 Share #15 Posted August 5, 2009 {snipped}I would have thought they wouldn't want to do anything to divert attention from the S2. Now is not the time to have €30m of investment shunted into some backwater by an incremental change to the Digital M, especially if it's not immediately available. {snipped} Except with any luck at all, the S2 and the M9 are for totally and completely different markets, in which case it's not muddying any waters whatsoever, and will generate more buzz for Leica if they release (or announce) a stellar new M camera. IOW, there's always more interest generated around a flagship model when there are other new models as well. And no-one knows if they're nearly ready to ship or not. As I've said elsewhere, I'd be delighted, but not surprised, if the channel for M9s filled out pretty quickly.

arthury Posted August 7, 2009 Share #18 Posted August 7, 2009 If the LCD screen of the M9 stays the same size, I will certainly NOT buy it. The current LCD is too small and too low in resolution.

marknorton Posted August 7, 2009 Share #20 Posted August 7, 2009 If the LCD screen of the M9 stays the same size, I will certainly NOT buy it. The current LCD is too small and too low in resolution. If they made the screen larger, the camera would become more difficult to hold asnd the cost of the cover glass would be prohibitive, as we see from the S2. The Panasonic G1 has a 3 inch screen and the buttons are squeezed into a very small space. I agree they should use a better, higher resolution LCD panel in there, whatever its size.
