cbretteville Posted August 4, 2009 Share #1 Posted August 4, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I'm migrating my image work environment from a Windows based platform to a Mac. Does anyone have a how-to or a link that gives me some insight into how I best can move my Lightroom DB to a Mac from a PC? Thanks, - Carl

Mark Pope Posted August 4, 2009 Share #2 Posted August 4, 2009 Hi Carl, It's fairly straightforward. you can export your catalogue(s) and images - just use <file> <export as catalog>. There is a tick box to enable you to export the images as well as the catalog and previews. Once the export is completed, on the Mac system, do a <file> <import from catalog> HTH Cheers Mark
Marquinius Posted August 4, 2009 Share #3 Posted August 4, 2009 Carl, Now would also be a great moment to burn all photos on a DVD (or several). Rotten job, but safed my *ss once.
cbretteville Posted August 4, 2009 Author Share #4 Posted August 4, 2009 Mark, Thanks, I'll give that a try when I have the Mac set up and ready to receive the images. Marco, Oh, I know. My profession is computer security and I started out writing backup software in the 80s. I mostly rely on hard drives as my backups, but I do have several of them including mirrored drives for my data volumes and NAS. At least one drive is stored at the office and brought home regularly for updates. Yes I'm paranoid, but I've seen too many drives fail over the years. - Carl

Ravi, that is something I'm not unfamiliar with, this is the Leica forum, remember - Carl
Sandokan Posted August 4, 2009 Share #8 Posted August 4, 2009 Oooh - I forgot we are all used to that :-) It will be interesting to see if you stick with the GUI or start to use the CLI with the Mac. Like windows, one can accomplish so much more so easily with a terminal. R.

I do most things in 4NT on Windows. - C
