Advertisement Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Hi carylwithay, Take a look here What is best macro lens for M8?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
biglouis Posted August 4, 2009 Share #2 Posted August 4, 2009 What are any of you using for macro work with the M8?Caryl I am using the Macro Elmar-M 90/4. For a non ASPH lens it is incredibly sharp but it also benefits from the lovely colour drawing of an Elmar. It collapses to an incredibly small size which is very convenient for walking around with. If I am going specifically to a country garden (which my wife likes doing) then I slip it into my camera bag and I'm set. I also have the macro attachment which reduces the close focussing distance and increases the magnification further. Here is an example, actually without the macro adaptor but cropped significantly: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/nature-wildlife/87715-damselfly-buttercup.html LouisB
Doc Henry Posted August 4, 2009 Share #3 Posted August 4, 2009 What are any of you using for macro work with the M8?Caryl Hi Caryl, Some photos to illustrate Macro Elmar about whom spoke Louis http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/nature-wildlife/85246-spring-flowers-trio-m7-90macro-fuji.html http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/nature-wildlife/82710-red-yellow-tulips-spring.html http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/nature-wildlife/75374-orchids-winter.html ..... a very good lens according to me Regards Henry
carylwithay Posted August 4, 2009 Author Share #4 Posted August 4, 2009 Thank you Henry. I LOVE those tulips. I have a 90mm but not the macro. I would have gotten that instead, had I known about it at the time. I was wondering if there was a macro ring that could make any of my lenses into a macro. I had one for my Hasselblad when i used film. Caryl
tobey bilek Posted August 4, 2009 Share #5 Posted August 4, 2009 If you are willing to use a visoflex, a black 65 3.5 elmar will serve you well. The silver version is a little less in corner sharpness and flatness of field and easier to find. Visoflex I Any 90 or 135 will work for close work if the head removes and you have the short focus mount. The 90 Macro Elmar goes to 1:3 only so it is a little limited. It does retain it qualities if you collapse it and put it on a viso or reflex camera, but there is a gap in the range if you do that.
carylwithay Posted August 4, 2009 Author Share #6 Posted August 4, 2009 I have both a 90 and a 135. Nothing seems to come off, but they have filter threads. sould a short focus mount fit on that? Caryl

As for 135s, only the Apo Telyt and the last version of Tele Elmar have unremovable lensheads, for all the others there are adpaters (easy to find) to mount lenshead on Visoflex , achieving an excellent macro set (tripod almost mandatory). carylwithay Posted August 5, 2009 Author Share #9 Posted August 5, 2009 I think I may just use my Nikons for macro work. It looks like macro with an M8 is a big problem and I do have macro lenses for the nikons. I was hoping to just have to carry one camera at a time but that may not work. Thank you all for responding.
