Artz, I know what is it but would be unfair... You know, the profile that pushy lady made to me with her scissors doesn't look like me at all, according with my wife. She says it is much better than me...

Ciao Maurizio... :D

LOL Enrico! I told you... as you were home later than expected, your wife is making you paying for that... it's probably an italian version of "Not tonight, darling, I have a headache!" :D

No, you don't look like as the profile she made with her scissors. You look much better.

In fact, I like this picture because you're getting robbed of 15€ and you still keep your smile ;)

Edit:

Yes, of course, you know the lens... Do you also think it's a tricky picture? Not easy to guess, isn't it? Well, let's now the experts to find out... :)

Luigi,

Engineers are never stupid ;)

I tried the engineer's approach to estimate the focal... :o: a human head at... 1 meter about (the pic is uncropped, I think), another head no more than 70-80 cm further, then some caps for human heads at (maybe) 1,5 mtr further again... compare the relative dimensions, estimate tha angle...

Drove me to nothing.. :(.. apart the idea that can be a 35, indeed.

BTW... where has it been taken ? I'll be in Paris 14th Sept in early morning... no much time but would like to have my profile from the same artist... :p

We were at Montmartre, rue du Chevalier de la Barre, next to rue du Mont Saint Cenis. If I were you, I wouldn't do it... but it's up to you

I'm back from the countryside on Sept. 17th, otherwise I'll be delighted to take you there and have a drink together. Next time?

And about the lens...?

I lean towards 35...

Luigi, it seems people here are afraid of taking the risk of being wrong...

It's just the Summicron 28 ASPH :p

It's funny, when I use CV lenses, people think they're Leica lenses... when I use Leica lenses, people think they're non-Leica lenses! I'm confused!

See ya in Paris next time! ;)

SPOT ON (at the first trial !) :)

:D :D :D

It's true this one was an easy one. The focal lenght was pretty obvious which reduced the possibilities. I knew it wasn't the CV25/4 because I have one and it draws different so the choices were the Leica Elmarit 24/2.8 and the Zeiss.

I don't know the Zeiss but I know the Leica Elmarit... I was pretty sure I had been taken with the Elmarit.

It would have helped if the crop showed a part of the image in focus.

Ian, the Summicron 28 ASPH is not a great lens for this kind of photograph. Enrico was too close. My little "trick" in those situations is to focus another area to get the face slightly OOF.

Ciao Enrico!

Artz, I know you had some problems with your 28cron, next time we meet I'd like to make a fast comparison with mine... I find it great at FA on short distance, while great at infinity (more or less) @F/4 F/5.6...

Ciao!

No problem, Maurizio!

I'll be in the countryside for the next two weeks and I'll have a lot of free time. If you want me to do some tests... I can send you the results by email.

PS: Where can I download a focus chart? I did that once but I don't know what I've done with it.

Hi Enrico (?),

does this help?

http://www.focustestchart.com/focus21.pdf

on page 18

Please tell me, if you had something better in mind, there I would be interested myself.

rolu

rolu,

First: Thank you for the test chart!. That's the one I had.

Second: Enrico (Epand56) is in Paris at the moment (see the picture above on page 7). Maurizio (Manubix) should be here also... so I suppose Maurizio is just saying also "Hello" to Enrico.

Third: I don't understand your request "Please tell me, if you had something better in mind, there I would be interested myself." Do you want to join me in the my house in the countryside, near Le Mans? If you want to propose something or, maybe, I can help you somehow... Please let me know...! :)

Hi All,

Very instructive this page and it is there that I see that my knowledge in optics Leica are still far from being satisfactory......

Artz

I really like my M 28mm.

Why do you say that ?:

"Ian, the Summicron 28 ASPH is not a great lens for this kind of photograph. Enrico was too close. My little "trick" in those situations is to focus another area to get the face slightly "

certainly it is not one 50 or one 75mm for the portrait but I find that Enrico is well :)

Artz another question:

With what optics I made this photo of Enrico ?

Luigi, if you come on September 14th i will see you with Artz in Paris ? :)

I'm glad I could help.

Sorry for my misunderstanding - I'm still a novice in this forum.

Third: I don't understand your request "Please tell me, if you had something better in mind, there I would be interested myself." Do you want to join me in the my house in the countryside, near Le Mans? If you want to propose something or, maybe, I can help you somehow... Please let me know...! :)

To be frank - countryside near Le Mans sounds very nice for a trip - but my work didn't allow for a vacation for more than a year now. (:-((

No - my request was about the focus chart. I'm new to the M-world, but already bought some used lenses, which are waiting for the M9 for a year or so. Also I'm considering to buy a LuxA 21 or 24. When the (my!) M9 is out (;-)), I want to check my lenses (LuxA35, Lux75 and one of the above) for exact focus. Therefore I was looking for focus charts. Sorry, maybe I'm too pedantic about this and focus-calibration of the Luxes is not such a problem?

Indeed you could help me, if you don't mind. Nobody answered my request for help about lens choosing (:-((
