steamboat Posted July 28, 2009 Share #23 Posted July 28, 2009 So what if the M9 IS announced in September. And it has a built-in ir filter and comes in a dozen colors and has huge increase in pixels. At the same time Leica announces that try as they can it just isn't possible to get a full frame sensor in the 'traditional' Leica M body. 'Just won't work. Then what? Or does everybody waiting for an M9 just reset to waiting for an M10? 'Just askin.

I have had my fill of Internet fights about perceived flaws of the camera which turned out to be pilot error with the M8 introduction. andybarton Posted July 29, 2009 Share #27 Posted July 29, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I think that the price of a used M8 in working condition will drop to about £1000.00 and probably hover around that figure depending on condition.Lets face it for someone starting out or as a spare it would be ok.If the camera was not working it would be worth nothing.I dont think an upgraded camera would be worth any more. Brian I would expect an M8 to sit at or below M7 prices. So, IMO, £1000 is about right, slowly drifting down. Used MPs will continue to command a premium. M7s are "cheap" to fix. M8s aren't. Walker from Norway has just had to pay €1250 to have a sensor changed...
exile Posted July 29, 2009 Share #28 Posted July 29, 2009 A used M8 will be priced according to what it is after an M9 arrives; a gateway drug. Provided Leica can still provide services and repairs for used M8s, they will be priced higher than film cameras in my opinion. Digital is more convenient and far cheaper after the initial outlay. And without getting into the 35mm film Vs M8 boredom in too much detail, let's just say that results from the two are comparabale. Also, if the M8.2 stays in production after the M9 ships, then I would expect prices to level out a little higher than they would otherwise - people are prepared to pay more second hand for a current model, even if if is no longer the flagship model in the range. Well, the M8.2 is a 'premium' model (with it's sapphire glass etc.). Assuming that there is a mythical M9 (doubtful?) I would have thought that it was more likely that the M8 stayed in production then the M8.2 (or possibly something in between). I agree with you about secondhand prices, I'd be really surprised if M8 prices dropped below M7 prices
miami91 Posted July 29, 2009 Share #30 Posted July 29, 2009 You could be right! Leica M9 on 09.09.09 at 09:09 again | Leica Rumors 09/09/09 is also the day that Apple Corps releases The Beatles original catalogue in remastered form (box sets and individual disks), and also the release of The Beatles Rock Band game! KevinA Posted July 30, 2009 Share #33 Posted July 30, 2009 my Leica dealer in Hong Kong said "m9 coming announcement september 2009, probably from germany (i like that bit), 20,000,000 pixels and hk$60,000"(roughly us$7,700). He didn't say much more than that and the combination of tight schedule and the need NOT to buy anything else expensive saw me running out the door...anybody else hear anything about this? With the announced price of the "S" system and what Leica have put into it, the M8 might be as far as Leica ever get, I seriously wonder if in a year you could buy any new Leica camera. Kevin. Kevin. HI Kevin How the devil are you? I think quite the opposite, apparently they have modest sales targets for the S2, it sounds like they've resisted the temptation to compete with mid range MF, these prices suggest that they might even make a profit on the ones they do sell. I very much doubt whether it's going to be very price sensitive anyway. After all, people still by Bugattis
