Well,

It's 21:17 lt here in Holland, so I think we'll call it a day. As from 00:00 lt Amsterdam time you can put in your votes. Any late comers (you still have some 2 hours plus some to enter photos) should count them selves lucky if votes are attached to their work: you only have 3 votes in total (1, 2 and 3 points) and once they're forwarded, nothing can change that vote.

So please: give me your votes and please include in some way which photo you're voting for :D

And although it's tough: try to focus on CLOUDS, as that's what this little contest is all about.

Oh and last but not least: you DON'T have to have posted "clouds" IOT put a vote to some photo! So spectators are welcome to vote as well!

Well ... I guess somebody has to go first:

There are very many good images in this thread worthy of consideration (and congratulations) -- for me, selecting the top three was quite difficult, but, here goes ....

3 points: Andy Barton's third image - "Formby, Merseyside"

This is an excellent initiative. I thoroughly enjoyed everything that people shared here. I chose to consider each photograph on how well it works as an image for me, rather than whether the clouds might be the main subject (very subject to interpretation). Since it probably is not done to vote for yourself, :) here are my choices, with thumbnails for easy reference

Andy's Perch Rock, Wirral, first place 3 points.

I love this for the classical composition, the texture contrasts bewteen cloud and sea, the tones and atmosphere. Technically excellent too

Allamande's Storm clouds approaching Los Angeles. second place 2 points

This works really well for me, wonderful atmosphere and story telling. Toning very effective too.

India's first photo, third place 1 point

Pure textures and light and subtle element too. Very fine seeing.

This was a tough one. I think ties should have been allowed (maybe they are?). I enjoyed viewing each entry and learned something from each. So, I am grateful to all. When deciding on my ranking, I totally went with the level of emotional impact a given image had for me.

First Place: David (India)

Well, it's Sunday and it's getting later in the afternoon. The wife will be back shortly, so I think I'm going to open a bottle of chilled white wine. I'm sure you want me to give the verdict before that :D

First: let me thank all posters AND all spectators. It has been an education! Really spectacular photography, stunning scenes and, not unimportant, a wide range of interpretations and viewpoints. Really astonishing how such a simple subject can deliver such a wide variety of really outstanding photography. I think that each and every photo has something special. And so it should be.

Second: although I started the thread, I refrain from voting BEFORE I give the verdict. I wouldn't want to influence anyone :D

Third: in the end it was a close call between Ece, Andy and Ivan. All in all 14 photos got some kind of vote (sorry, all photos got a vote as Ece gave everybody an honorary one :p).

So here goes!

Third place with 9 votes: Ece with her wonderfuly tinted landscape.

Second place with 11 votes: Andy with his stormy cloudscape.

First place with 13 votes: Ivan with his roiling skies.

Here they are once again, thank you for joining in and hoping to meet you again in a contest.

Oh, and my vote would be as follows:

1 point for Brent's second (dark skies over buildings)

2 points for Albert's "final" (cloud column building up)

3 points for Geoff's second (afternoon at estuary)
