Constable Posted July 14, 2009 Share #1 Posted July 14, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Well, I gave in to the need for a high quality travel rig when I didn't want to carry the Nikons. I'm blown away by this little camera ... back to my childhood in terms of remembering how to set up a good shot and have full control over the camera. Everyone who wants to use a DSLR should have rangefinder lessons. Thanks Leica. Welcome, dear visitor! I agree so much about the basics of photography is ignored these days. I love door photographs, makes one stop and wonder about what goes on behind them. Jeff PS Enjoy your new camera. wda Posted July 14, 2009 Share #3 Posted July 14, 2009 Leica Ms are among the very few cameras which require the photographer to think, most of the time! I enjoy the slower pace but still seem to take more pictures with my M8!
Iansky Posted July 14, 2009 Share #4 Posted July 14, 2009 I agree with the posts above - going back to an M after a number of years using a Canon full frame DSLR has given me a new lease of photographic life. It is great to be back to manual focus, manual aperture and a small compact yet very capable machine, the size, build, weight and that wonderful clear bright viewfinder has taken me back 15years to my time as a PJ - all of this coupled with digital. I really appreciate what I have in my current M8 and do not dream or crave the "next model" - I am a strong believer in enjoying and using what you have rather than wait for the next to be announced according to speculation. stevem7 Posted July 14, 2009 Share #5 Posted July 14, 2009 Man, I have to say that after YEARS of shooting every DSLR known to man that I am still happy as a clam, even after 3 years with the M8 and now M8.2. I shoot it daily, and it really is a pretty amazing machine. No going back to DSLR for daily shooting for me!

Shootist Posted July 14, 2009 Share #7 Posted July 14, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) This morning I was fooling with my bosses Sony P&S. It has so many buttons on it and menus I couldn't figure it out, almost. I thought to myself "Boy I am glad I have the M8". Not to mention the images from the M8 just blow away everything else I have ever used or handled.

Shootist Posted July 14, 2009 Share #10 Posted July 14, 2009 Thanks guys. It certainly puts some fun back into photography. Now if only I could do macro .......... Ed Buy yourself a 75mm Summicron. It is the next best thing to Macro. And if you don't want to print at 13x19 you can crop out most of a image and still prin 8.5x11.
Constable Posted July 14, 2009 Author Share #11 Posted July 14, 2009 Weeeellll, It is going to take a lot to beat the D3X but I'm willing to try. Most of my macro work is insects in the couple mm range. Probably have to use the bellows (or jerry rig extension tubes?). Jaap ... how the hell do you tell what is actually in the field of view with the bellows? You're a better man than I am Ed Welcome, dear visitor! You're a better man than I am Ed That is not so difficult, one looks at the mattescreen in the Visoflex, which I marked for the right framing with a pencil... The focussing of the Visoflex, btw, is more precise than just about any current DSLR. It is one of the most brilliant photographic accessories ever built. Welcome, dear visitor!
