MPerson Posted July 12, 2009 Share #21 Posted July 12, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I use iViewMedia Pro purely to catalogue my images, keywords, comments, renaming etc. I have two directories, one for the raw files converted to dng and one for the jpeg/tiff files produced from them. I then use either LR, Lightzone, CS4 or RAW Developer to post process as required. I can't see any real advantage to upgrade to MS Expresssion Media yet. Advertisement Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 Hi MPerson, Take a look here Do you use RAW files on your Digilux 2 ?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Overgaard Posted July 12, 2009 Share #22 Posted July 12, 2009 I can't see any real advantage to upgrade to MS Expresssion Media yet. No, stay away from it. Some of the features in iView has been screwed up by Microsoft so the product is in fact less today than it was before they bought it.
koray Posted July 12, 2009 Share #23 Posted July 12, 2009 Unfortunately that confirms what I suspected and feared as I did notice a difference in the beginning when I sent Digilux 2 files through Lightroom.... Your comparison surely speaks for itself. Thorsten, By shooting RAW I eliminate the JPEG artefacts, then the B&Ws I get from Silverefex look much more natural (since I add film grain within Silverefex anyway, I prefer to start with a cleaner base). Below is an example, please click on the photo for a high resolution copy (notice the added grain). What is nice is that the original JPEGs are never lost, they are always saved in the system. Cheers, Koray
rivi1969 Posted July 12, 2009 Share #24 Posted July 12, 2009 I always shoot RAW since I can squeeze at 1-2 stops of additional information in highlights and shadows, the files look beefier specially when doing black and white work and the noise is more even without the purple moire usually presented in JPG files. I know it takes time but for me is worthy. Cheers Ricardo
