chris_tribble Posted November 13, 2006 Share #21 Posted November 13, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks - I feel even more reassured! -- and I'd vote for the idiot's guide to be sticky as and when you have the time to post it. Grateful for your efforts. Now all I have to do is wait for Leica UK to get the camera to my dealer... Peter41951 Posted November 13, 2006 Share #22 Posted November 13, 2006 Jamie Thank you. This is really excellent news and I'd very much like to try the profile out. Can any forum member help with using it in LightRoom?
fotografr Posted November 13, 2006 Share #23 Posted November 13, 2006 Bruce-- Looks like C1 LE doesn't include all the profiles that C1 Pro does (I've used Pro for a long time). Since C1 LE is what is bundled with the M8, I would really hope Leica could work something out to get a new profile into it. Great work on this, Jamie. It should save a lot of people $hundreds$ in filter costs.
innerimager Posted November 13, 2006 Share #24 Posted November 13, 2006 appears that yellow is desaturating?
Jamie Roberts Posted November 13, 2006 Author Share #25 Posted November 13, 2006 appears that yellow is desaturating? Actually, I haven't had time to play with nuance of saturation. I dont think yellow is desaturating as much as I didn't get time to tweak it a little. But that would be a simple fix in C1 Pro (just open the color editor, click on the yellow patch in the CC, and tweak the saturation level). See, once I have a DCC (with more patches) we can fine tune a bit more. But it's pretty hopeful stuff. In fact, it means the M8 is completely wonderful to use as is for me, and the real fix from Leica is the icing on the cake. Overall saturation is desaturated, but I like my RAWs that way, since adding saturation is actually really, really simple, as long as the colors are well-balanced. Great work on this, Jamie. It should save a lot of people $hundreds$ in filter costs. Brent, once I get back home (I'm travelling right now) I'll install C1 pro and see if I can find the right profile to tweak. They may not let you swiitch one in and out. cbretteville Posted November 13, 2006 Share #27 Posted November 13, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Jamie, This deserves a big pad on the back, a propper "attaboy". I'm still going to hold off ordering my M8, but at least I'll stop wondering why Zeiss haven't siezed the oppurtunity to annouce a digital Ikon.... Since C1 LE is what is bundled with the M8, I would really hope Leica could work something out to get a new profile into it. Brent, as long as a profile can be added to LE, Leica can simply put it as a download on their web site we can just pick it off there. If not they might have to give M8 users the full monty. - Carl
edlbell Posted November 13, 2006 Share #28 Posted November 13, 2006 This is great news. Unfortunately I need help in using these profiles. I have the newest version of C1 LE, downloaded from their site. I can see the profile on the Color Management Setting, but am unable to "apply" those setting to the file. billh Posted November 13, 2006 Share #29 Posted November 13, 2006 Thanks Jamie. I wonder if Leica and /or the C1 people are working on a fix like this?
chrism Posted November 13, 2006 Share #30 Posted November 13, 2006 This is great news. Unfortunately I need help in using these profiles. I have the newest version of C1 LE, downloaded from their site. I can see the profile on the Color Management Setting, but am unable to "apply" those setting to the file. I don't know which platform you are on, but on the Mac after installing the .icc profile in the right place, you can in C1 LE select it as the default profile for a camera in the Preferences dialog for Color Management. One of the advantages of C1 Pro is that you have a drop down menu when using the white balance tool that lets you select the icc profile without having to make a trip to the preferences. edlbell Posted November 13, 2006 Share #32 Posted November 13, 2006 The PC version allows me to view the settings in Color Management Settings, but I can't seem to change the one setting that includes the profiles in the drop down menu. Are their any PC users who have been able toaccomplish this? Ed
j. borger Posted November 13, 2006 Share #33 Posted November 13, 2006 Jamies Profile realy works for me and improves things dramaticaly. The need to adjust saturation of all or some colors is not an issue for me .......because that is very much up to personal taste. I for one am not a big fan of too saturated colors ... but mileage obvious differs here. Thanks again for the good work Jamie!
j. borger Posted November 13, 2006 Share #34 Posted November 13, 2006 The PC version allows me to view the settings in Color Management Settings, but I can't seem to change the one setting that includes the profiles in the drop down menu. Are their any PC users who have been able toaccomplish this? Ed - Select a picture - Go to "workflow" in the top-menu - select "show colormanagement settings" .. than a new menu with several drop-down boxes show. The colorprofile is the 2nd drop down box labeled "camera" (a bit confusing: because it should read camera profile). Even if you change M8 in this 2nd dropdown menu to R8 or R9 generic profile you will notice a decrease in magenta.
jonoslack Posted November 13, 2006 Share #35 Posted November 13, 2006 Thanks guys! I"m going away for a few days (along with the M8 of course), but I'll get the profile out if I get good feedback on it, and get the guide done when I get back in town. Have a great trip - I'm looking forwards to having a go with it. Kind Regards Jono Slack
Jamie Roberts Posted November 13, 2006 Author Share #36 Posted November 13, 2006 Hey--thanks for the kudos and the well-wishes folks. I'm happy to share this with anyone who wants to use it before the real version of a fix comes out from Leica. I'll be back on Thursday, so I'll be able to help out with C1 LE. In the meantime, if you're comfortable installing the profile (it's pretty easy in Windows; right click... install) then PM me here (for some reason I can't get to email, but I can get to this forum!). Interestingly, I heard from one person I sent the profile to that he got it to work in LightRoom, but others have said that's not possible. We'll see. Anyway, the M8 really does rock, and I really like what I'm seeing in the few shots I get in between client meetings
edlbell Posted November 13, 2006 Share #37 Posted November 13, 2006 That is what I was doing. I must have the profiles installed improperly. I can only see the "Phase One....." profiles in the first box labeled Camera Product. The second box only has Cameras. Any thoughts on how I can properly install the profiles. I did a standard install. nothing fancy from me. I did notice a shift when I selected the R8 or R9 product. Thanks!

Ed-- On C1 Pro (Windows, anyway) there's this little checkbox in the color management window that says, appropriately enough, "show only Phase One profiles"... Uncheck that, and you should see all the profiles (even ones you'd never use) that are installed on your system.
