johnwolf Posted July 7, 2009 Share #1 Posted July 7, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Reading Hannah Lifson's wonderful essay on snapshot photography got me thinking I don't print as much as I should anymore. I print the occasional so-called "art piece," but not so much the kinds of pictures we used to take to the 1-hour lab and store in boxes and cheap albums. Firing up the big inkjet just doesn't seem worth it. But I'd like hardcopies of these pictures and would appreciate hearing how you all handle that part of your printing. Thanks. richam Posted July 8, 2009 Share #3 Posted July 8, 2009 I have an old HP 130 that does 4x6 very nicely. No more drivers for my Mac OSX system, but I transfer to an SD card and plug that into the printer. Got a bargain pack of 4x6 glossy at the Lidl store, and the single cartridge is still available and lasts a long time.

stuny Posted July 8, 2009 Share #5 Posted July 8, 2009 I put the processed images on an SD card and go to a pharmacy to use the Kodak machine, getting the copies very quickly, or if I don't want to wait for a large batch, instruct the machine to complete it by a certain time and then pick it up later. Bob Ross Posted July 8, 2009 Share #6 Posted July 8, 2009 Most often, I print four to a letter size sheet & cut and sometimes I make extra copies of my proof sheets and they have been well received when they are from a single event or location. Bob Ross Posted July 10, 2009 Share #8 Posted July 10, 2009 I don't print snapshots because I don't do snapshots..... Snap shots are the essence of personal visual histories, for those that come after us to see what we were really like. Presently it is also a way to shrink space via the internet sharing...snap shots or web shots....Go ahead and snap and capture the moment....someone down the line will find it interesting, informative or entertaining. Best thing to do is to redefine....how about "Fine Art Snap Shot" Bob
storybrown Posted July 11, 2009 Share #9 Posted July 11, 2009 <"Fine Art Snap Shot"> hey! I got a million of 'em: camp, high & low (esp low); surrealist; primitivist; impressionist (slightly out-of-focus) &c&c -- but I also actually think you're right. Remember all the arty polaroids? The Lifson essay is excellent (thanks for the link) -- Erwin Puts & others have often said much the same. Selphy is a good quick & economical printer. johnwolf Posted July 13, 2009 Author Share #10 Posted July 13, 2009 Thanks, everyone. I've had a Canon i960 for many years, but forgot it had a 4 x 6 feeder. I set up an LR print template and now it couldn't be easier or faster. Appreciate the help. John
