Advertisement Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 Hi vanhulsenbeek, Take a look here The Coming Revolution: article by David duChemin. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stunsworth Posted July 7, 2009 Share #2 Posted July 7, 2009 A naive article IMHO. Somehow I don't think the Canon v Nikon debate is going to go away. I found his discussion of pro v amateur even more naive, what he was suggesting has been discussed many times before. There's more to being a pro than being paid for your photographs, you have to be good at non-photographic things such as marketing and know how to run a business. Many amateurs are capable of taking as good a photograph as many pros, but as I say, there's more to be a pro than taking a photograph.
efftee Posted July 7, 2009 Share #3 Posted July 7, 2009 I find myself wondering more about whether this has anything to do with being an M8 thread than the content itself! Not a good thing, I don't think. But Stunsworth is quite right; there is a lot of naivete in there. I applaud the guy, who himself admits to being idealistic, for what he does with World Vision and I've even ordered his book but to think a photograph can change the world is a very nice thought. And that's all it really is.

stevelap Posted July 7, 2009 Share #5 Posted July 7, 2009 Sorry Jaap but efftee is right (and you should know better:)), this thread has little to do with the M8 and, imho, shouldn't have been posted here (you'll only encourage Scaryink, who seems to be on a mission to promote the posting of anything and everything in the M8 forum only;)). If the Mods are to be even-handed it should be moved.
stunsworth Posted July 7, 2009 Share #6 Posted July 7, 2009 Steve, I think Jaap as referring to the linked article, not to the fact that this thread should stay in the M8 forum.
stevelap Posted July 7, 2009 Share #7 Posted July 7, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Steve, I think Jaap as referring to the linked article, not to the fact that this thread should stay in the M8 forum. My humble apologies to Jaap, my post should of course have referred to the OP. Jaap's monicker must have subliminally slipped into my head from his post above, doh:confused:. Thanks Steve, and sorry again Jaap.

stevelap Posted July 7, 2009 Share #11 Posted July 7, 2009 IMHO there are precious few pixel-FF-ISO-etc.- starved technorati in any other Leica Forum than in the M8 Forum. It's general interest stuff so the Digital forum, or Customer forum, would be more appropriate, imho.

Food for thought for those pixel-FF-ISO-etc.- starved technorati! And one more call to go out there and take pictures! Whether it should be here or not is one thing . . . but I think the responses speak for themselves really. I'm certainly not convinced that there is any Revolution coming . . . just wish there was! Thanks for the link - I enjoyed the article, idealistic or not.

ptarmigan Posted July 7, 2009 Share #17 Posted July 7, 2009 Whether it should be here or not is one thing . . . but I think the responses speak for themselves really. I'm certainly not convinced that there is any Revolution coming . . . just wish there was! Thanks for the link - I enjoyed the article, idealistic or not. Jono I remember the days when no one asked what gear you shot with. Some asked what film but not that many and only when you shot something really exceptional/unusual. It would be nice to get back to the quality of the image and not get hung up on gear, lenses, sensors, resolution etc etc. I am not an active club member these days - no time - but did a solid stint in 2002/2003. I had some moderate successes in competitions and I never recall anyone asking a single thing about my gear, just ' how did you achieve that lighting', an argument over whether a winning image was 'too' underexposed or not oh and another 'winner' admitting he had sandwiched two slides together. All less than 6 years ago. This forum lark is I think what has sparked off the 'fan-boys'. No time for it personally. I've used (and enjoyed using) everything from a Zenit; OM1, 2, 3 & 4ti; Mamiya C220, studio cameras, EOS from 650 to 1V HS; Bronics ETRS & i; Mamiya 645 Pro TL; Olympus E1; D2x and now M8. None of them were perfect, but then neither am I. My favourite comment starts with 'I don't own xxx nor have I ever used one... but this why you (who own and use one) are wrong and why mine is better than yours. Maybe with the 'leveling' off of the pixel race and the narrowing of the high ISO performance we can renew our interest in the photographic images and lose the 'mine is bigger than yours' attitudes. ArtZ Posted July 7, 2009 Share #18 Posted July 7, 2009 The Coming Revolution | PixelatedImage Blog Chanced upon this article by Vancouver-based David duChemin. Food for thought for those pixel-FF-ISO-etc.- starved technorati! And one more call to go out there and take pictures! What this article has do do with the M8!?... When I read this and other popular threads about moving threads and forum rules, I must say I'm completely lost now. I think dropping a Summilux used together with a M8 has more to do with the "Leica M8 Forum" than this article of David duChemin... Personnally, I don't mind having this thread here... but then the forum rules seem to me very confusing. My two and an half cents
