Guest BigSplash Posted June 13, 2009 Share #1 Posted June 13, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) In another thread (M8/9 as a system camera) I notice that it has been closed down...maybe this is the right decision.....but who makes this decision, without even reference to the originator of the posting (or thread) ? Is there any governing body for the complete Forum and how is it structured and managed? I worry that within the above thread some people have pushed a viewpoint (which is fine) as I have done the same,.......although I have clearly declared where I am coming from. Others have not. At some point they declare that they are professionals with several cameras many of which are Nikon or Canon or both and do not agree with my needs as an amateur. or someone who wants to base my photography on M8 ...How does the Forum address this issue or does it not feel the need? Advertisement Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 Hi Guest BigSplash, Take a look here Forum Management and Moderator. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Guest stnami Posted June 13, 2009 Share #2 Posted June 13, 2009 What has the m8/9 got to do with " Forum Management and Moderator" ?
stunsworth Posted June 13, 2009 Share #3 Posted June 13, 2009 The forum is run - and donations apart paid for - by Andreas aka admin. There is no governing body, there is no democracy. That's fine and dandy IMHO. Andreas pays the bills, he is the benevolent dictator. The forum runs very well, again IMHO, and moderation is light - much preferable to the situation on some other forums, again IMHO.

lct Posted June 13, 2009 Share #5 Posted June 13, 2009 You wrote 65 posts in one week Frank. We all see very well what are your suggestions i guess. Time to take a bit of rest don't you think so?

I agree about the light moderation as being a good thing.
stunsworth Posted June 13, 2009 Share #7 Posted June 13, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Quite, strong opinions were expressed for and against, I don't see the problem. Personally I wouldn't have closed the thread, but hey, I'm not a mod - just as well I hear you say.
earleygallery Posted June 13, 2009 Share #8 Posted June 13, 2009 I think that thread was closed because comments were getting personal and the subject had already been exhausted. Right decision by the mods IMHO.
Guest BigSplash Posted June 13, 2009 Share #9 Posted June 13, 2009 You wrote 65 posts in one week Frank. We all see very well what are your suggestions i guess. Time to take a bit of rest don't you think so? Thanks for keeping the count....it was an interesting week for me! I learned a lot about: > Leica strategy, > Leica M system and why people love it > Visoflex (40 year old design) is clunky etc and not as good as a modern SLR > Professionals that prefer their M series as is, and compliment this with either the R digital module (plus a host of R lenses), or a Digtal Nikon (plus lenses) or a Digital Canon (plus lenses) ...or ALL of these.......OBVIOUSLY they do not need or want to see anything moving the M series into a system camera I also learned a lot about people .......it was a very enlightening week on that front. > Some Forum members are clearly outstanding and knowledgeable > Jaapv is in that category, although a pro. ferent needs to me at least > David in USA gave a superb insight into Leica roadmaps, > Italian members plus Nicole seemed to be unbiassed and also knoweledgeable. > Various people disagreed with me, (Steve, Andy to name a few) but overall had good technical and commercial arguments to make...great, although arguably biassed > Then there were a few others...No comment! I feel very sorry for them Please I suggest it is time to close this thread it has given me the visibilit I asked for and thanks for that.

Time to take a bit of rest don't you think so? I just read the Forum rules which are great by the way! ....Apparently if I go from 65 posts to a 100 posts then I get to be an "Efahrner Bentutzer".....and you want me to take a rest! andybarton Posted June 13, 2009 Share #11 Posted June 13, 2009 That thread was closed for the reasons stated in the last post on the thread and as James said above All the Mods run with a light touch, but if a thread is going down, as that one was, closure is the best option for the good of the forum

abrewer Posted June 13, 2009 Share #13 Posted June 13, 2009 Ditto with the praise for Andy...he is devoted to the Forum's best interests always Also good to see you posting some more LCT If only we could entice Mr. Lamb back into the fold ((no pun intended there) it would be like old times again
lct Posted June 13, 2009 Share #14 Posted June 13, 2009 ...If only we could entice Mr. Lamb back into the fold ((no pun intended there) it would be like old times again Sure Allan, have you heard of William recently? Hope he's well.
abrewer Posted June 13, 2009 Share #15 Posted June 13, 2009 I am quite certain he has moved, LCT, as he planned I have a spy on the lookout for a white Morgan in the area, but have not heard from either
MPerson Posted June 13, 2009 Share #16 Posted June 13, 2009 If only we could entice Mr. Lamb back into the fold ((no pun intended there) it would be like old times again Allan - that is scary. I was just thinking of him this morning watching the Le Mans Legends race and the Morgans. I too miss his images and words of wisdom. Hope you can entice him back. Craftsman Posted June 13, 2009 Share #17 Posted June 13, 2009 You wrote 65 posts in one week Frank. We all see very well what are your suggestions i guess. Time to take a bit of rest don't you think so? I defend the guys right to make 65 posts in a day if he wants. Why do you take the time to count them if it bothers you so much? just don't read them and save yourself the aggravation. Now theres a simple solution for you. no? erl Posted June 14, 2009 Share #18 Posted June 14, 2009 Craftsman, I don't perceive lct as being aggravated. He is simply clarifying what many have observered and passing his opinion on it. No! ...... or should that be yes?
NZDavid Posted June 14, 2009 Share #19 Posted June 14, 2009 Has anyone noticed how moderators all have first named beginning with "A" -- Andy, Allan, Andreas (admin)? IMO they do a damn good job, and unpaid to boot! This is an excellent forum, but of course could always be modified or jazzed up. I posted a few ideas along those lines previously. (See: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/about-leica-forum/86446-new-ideas-leica-forum.html) Some threads (Frank's last being a prime example) wander off alarmingly on bizarre tangents. Of course, it's easiest just to ignore these digressions, but in the end, moderators can do only so much -- it's up to all of us to moderate ourselves! --------------- "Never go to excess, but let moderation be your guide.” Marcus Tullius Cicero

I also believe Andy did the right thing to end the thread for this reason...that said I remain convinced about the next gen Viso idea, but totally accept that if you are a pro with a spare DSLR from Nikon and Canon or R9 digital bank you would be crazy to endorse a Viso approach....some of us however do NOT have this luxury. I shall be communicating my thoughts to Rudolf Spiller (M product manager) and have made contact with Leica UK already who are setting up the call. If anything comes out of it I'll advise.. I guess people will not mind if I suggest putting the M9 full frame, the 12, 15 mm rumoured M lenses and the R10 on hold until the new Viso is fully investigated!
