My Leica experience is purely digital as I bought a M8.2 + few lenses less than a year ago. l love it for its image quality, ergonomics and size. Thus there was no real necessity for this additional purchase. But for unknown reasons I got attracted by other daughters of the Leica family and lusted for this strange items that do not utilize a sensor to store the image. The idea behind the purchase partly is to further open up my mind and to share the experiencce of the analog Leica family. The main reason is that my wife too often complaints that there are too many files hidden on my hard disc and that print outs are lacking. So one argument will be that I will use the M7 for family and holiday pictures. Please give me more good reasons to get the mercy of my wife... SteveYork Posted May 29, 2009 Share #13 Posted May 29, 2009 Don't feel bad; we have all been down that road. It's only a waste if you don't use it. Treat it as a learning experience. You'll see if you like using an analog M. The worst case scenario is that you just turn around and sell it. Since you purchased used, you'll probably get most of your investment out of it. View the difference as what it would cost to rent the equipment. I just sold my backup MP which I purchased used about two years ago. It didn't get a whole lot os use, being a backup, but I sold it for the exact price I purchased it for. Here's a story that will make you feel better: I just put together an SLR system based on a R6.2 and ROM lenses for a 'birds and bees' trip this fall. This week I've decided to use a old Leicaflex SL instead, because I've fallen madly in love with its' big, bold beautiful viewfinder. But that means I'll have to get rid of the R6.2 and the ROM lenses. That's all part of living in Leica land. Just take a lot of pictures of your kids and spouse. Regards Steve Steve, They say that our ladies are always good advisors and as regards your wife she has reason twice I have 2 M8 and i have M7 and R8 and a R4S especially for macro I take photos in another way not as for the digital. Contrary to popular belief, there are economic advantages for using film; especially when it comes to long-term storage. Show her this article: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/23/business/media/23steal.html You can use an M7 as a back-up to your M8. Digital cameras go through batteries quickly, whereas the M7's batteries will likely last several months (and sometimes years, depending on use). There are still places where film is easier to find than memory cards.
