I had no clue what this was and had to ask one of the locals to tell me what they were.

jmr Posted November 6, 2006 Share #4 Posted November 6, 2006 Brent, what colours! It's difficult to take in the scale of the shot, from a aeroplane you say? Must be big. Nice capture.
robert_parker Posted November 6, 2006 Share #5 Posted November 6, 2006 Brent I had no idea that anything like that existed - striking colours and quick reflexes !!
fotografr Posted November 6, 2006 Author Share #6 Posted November 6, 2006 Thanks Paul, Azzo, John and Robert for the comments. John--I shot this from the plane at a height of about 800 meters (just guessing). These things are really quite large--several acres. Robert--I also had never heard of them. I still don't know why they exist or what they are used for.
arminw Posted November 6, 2006 Share #7 Posted November 6, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) It looks very abstract and it took me sometime to figure out what it is ... very nice indeed and rather unusual. Congratulation for a great capture and thanks for sharing .
gabek Posted November 7, 2006 Share #8 Posted November 7, 2006 Robert--I also had never heard of them. I still don't know why they exist or what they are used for. Cargill Salt: Environmental Values These salt ponds are operated by the Cargill Salt Company and share space along the San Francisco Bay with wildlife reserves and eco-centers. The ponds are filled with salt water. As they are allowed to dry out, what remains is largely salt from the sea water. It is harvested, washed, processed and sold by Cargill.
