21mm summilux with film - any filter?

Sorry... you post in the film forum... does this mean you use the UVIR filter with film ? I think it's at all normal that with WA it gives cyan drift problems... they are made for M8 only, with cyan drift corrected via firmware: don't use it with film and, if needed, get a standard UV filter.

This is with film.

I am just too chicken to use no filter at all. Haven't found a plain UV filter yet.

The next roll will be B&W.

Just wondering if anyone has found a filter/solution that they like. I keep the uv+ir filter on my 28mm summicron, and I can live with the corner color drift there, but with the 21mm it is much more noticeable.

The cyan corners is a function of the filter (and the focal length of the lens) not of digital/film. So you'll get it with any lens of sufficiently wide angle while using these UV/IR interference filters.

B&H has series 7 and 8 B+W UV filters. Doesn't the 21/1.4 take series 8 filters?

Just got my first roll back using the 21mm summilux, and the cyan drift in the corners can be very noticeable when using the uv+ir filter.

What are folks using instead of the uv+ir filters? nothing?

Did you expect that you would not see any cyan drift? If anything, it's going to be worse on film because the film image is wider angle than the M8 image.

You need to either remove the filter or (until such time as they is a Leica UV Series VIII) filter, use the B+W equivalent. Actually, I think the hood protects the front lens element quite well, though the replacement cost of the hood itself is enough to cause a sharp intake of breath.

Other than that, if you scan the image, you can use CornerFix to fix it.

I don't have this particular lens--not that I wouldn't love one--but whichever of my three lenses I'm shooting with, I most often go without a filter. It's nothing to fear. But if you're intent on finding a UV filter, I'm sure you could have a Series VIII made by Heliopan or B+W.
