kld Posted July 4, 2006 Share #4 Posted July 4, 2006 It was a nightmare to get an account. I am still get thrown out after some time though I clicked "stay logged on". The design of this forum is very German, which is a synonym for over bureaucrated and brain damaged. :-)
jmr Posted July 4, 2006 Share #5 Posted July 4, 2006 John, I like the depth in the crop in the foreground and the subtlety of the handling of the sky; nice shot.
john_r_smith Posted July 4, 2006 Author Share #6 Posted July 4, 2006 Thank you, John, I'm glad you enjoyed the picture. The 28mm end of the Vario Summicron is absolutely superb, because the true focal length is just 7mm and you have DOF to die for. Even wide-open at f2 it is holds up very well, in true Leica fashion. So for landscape work the D2/LC1 is really rather special. John

john_r_smith Posted July 4, 2006 Author Share #10 Posted July 4, 2006 Stuart it's very kind of you to say all that - I'm sure I don't deserve it Have you noticed how many really good pictures have been posted here today from the D2 and LC1? Time for the DMR and M7 owners to make a comeback! John

lambroving Posted July 4, 2006 Share #13 Posted July 4, 2006 John, What YOU need is a Linhof, and what I need is to get out more. 20 rolls is the fridge waiting for Blighty in three weeks. Counting on YOU for good weather!
john_r_smith Posted July 5, 2006 Author Share #14 Posted July 5, 2006 Thank you all for taking the time to comment, it is greatly appreciated. William, I hope the weather is ideal for your visit - at present it is very hot and humid, but grey and thundery in Cornwall. The Linhof suggestion actually hits the spot - I have been toying with the idea of getting some medium or even large format kit again. The problem is the pain of carting it all around! johnnyj Posted July 5, 2006 Share #15 Posted July 5, 2006 Foreground, tonal range, composition elements and most importantly a "feeling" of summer. Nicely done. Rag on German bureaucracy all you want but I miss shooting there. John
gverdon Posted July 5, 2006 Share #16 Posted July 5, 2006 John, it works perfectly for me. A very nice play of sky and earth elements... Gérald

lambroving Posted July 5, 2006 Share #19 Posted July 5, 2006 John, I'm relying on you for the weather... As for the Linhof, I made that remark only because your POV often seems to be 4x5 and very studied.
marc_dufour Posted July 30, 2006 Share #20 Posted July 30, 2006 A perfect composition, gray scale and DOF. I really like it a lot. Marc
