miklosphoto Posted May 5, 2009 Share #1 Posted May 5, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a silver .72 M7 and use many lenses on it, like 35mm Summicron, 50mm Summilux, 75 and 90mm Summarits. Recently I got the latest 28mm Summicron (the digitaly coded version) and I am having problems to attach that lens to the M7. What happens is that it does not click like other lenses and the small tab which is supposed to hold the lens on the camera is not really keeping it from rotating it. That is I can take off the lens from the body without pressing the lens release button. Now the same lens clicks and holds perfectly on an M8 I also have. lars_bergquist Posted May 6, 2009 Share #3 Posted May 6, 2009 My 28mm Summicron works perfectly on both my M4-P and my M8. The lens was introduced in 2000, well before the M8. There is something wrong with either the camera or (more probable) the lens. I can only advise you to let a competent camera mechanic look into the matter. It can be as simple as a broken or weak return spring on the latch, or as bad as a detached and incorrectly reattached bayonet. The indent on the rear lens mount of the 28 was not deep enough for the catch on the camera body. Mounting and locking worked fine on my M8 but the lens would twist off easily on either of my M6 TTLs. Find a capable Leica repair up there in the Bay area and have them lightly machine a minutely-deeper notch into the back of the lens mount. I used Steve's Camera Service Center on Sepulveda on Culver City on the west side of Los Angeles. I left the lens and an M6 body and three days later he called to say it was ready. Now it locks resolutely in place. I don't remember the cost but I do remember thinking it was entirely reasonable.You'll find it's a quite fine piece of glass.
