mhoutman Posted November 3, 2006 Share #21 Posted November 3, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) The Leica agency in the Netherlands had not received their allocation for their ten dealers as of yesterday. Do you have info that any of the stores in Holland have actually received cameras from their distributor (transamerica)? Indeed, Transcontinenta (dutch Leica Importer) have NOT shipped any M8's yet, so I am also curious where Martijn's M8 is bought........

grober Posted November 4, 2006 Share #28 Posted November 4, 2006 I've been told by the dealer today that my black M8 is in transit from New Jersey. Should be available for me to pick up on Monday. Not tellin' which state until I get that baby in my hands; let's just say I'm west of Texas and have been #1 on this dealer's list for many months. I appreciate Leica's intent to get at least one M8 in the hands of every authorized and willing Leica dealer (in the U. S.) so that the larger stores in the big states just don't suck the pipeline dry from the get-go. -g
nealf Posted November 4, 2006 Share #29 Posted November 4, 2006 As I said on the thread I started I got mine today in New Jersey, took a couple of pictures in the shop with a store 50mm Summicron (see here; http://www.leica-camera-user.com/digital-forum/8611-i-got-mine.html ) Home now putting a full charge on the battery
wilfredo Posted November 4, 2006 Share #30 Posted November 4, 2006 This is a great soap opera! :-) Looks like Leica is very effective in bringing the child out of many of you. I haven't placed an order for this camera but I'm enjoying these posts. Cheers, Wilfredo+ Benitez-Rivera Photography

LarryK Posted November 4, 2006 Share #32 Posted November 4, 2006 Hello, Yes, I got mine today! I'm in New York... Here is the unveiling: http://web.mac.com/mac.hive/iWeb/Site/Unwrapping%20the%20M8.html (sorry for the bad digital point and shoot pics...) Just a couple of shots so far, getting used to the camera. I didn't get my grip and miss it after using one on the R-D1. I have a wrist strap on the camera, that is certainly a good idea. I'm going out tomorrow for more test shooting... Larry Very nice Larry, reminds me of unwrapping my first iPod and also confirmed my choice for a black chrome one
kdemas Posted November 4, 2006 Share #34 Posted November 4, 2006 I picked mine up a few hours ago and the battery is charging as I write this. It feels like Christmas came early. I got mine at Camerawest, a nice Silver version, and I'm on the waiting list for a black one. The guys at Camerawest are terrific, I highly recommend them. So, after 4 hours of driving to Monterey and back I'm watching a little amber light on the charger, just waiting for it to go out. Fun stuff. Take care and I hope everyone gets theirs soon! LarryK Posted November 4, 2006 Share #36 Posted November 4, 2006 Very nice Larry, reminds me of unwrapping my first iPod and also confirmed my choice for a black chrome one Ah, you don't like my black camera? I think the chrome one is beautiful as well, but I wanted something less conspicuous for street shooting in New York. My theory is that a black camera held against a black leather jacket is invisible! That theory seemed to work well for the RD-1. Maybe I can get one of each...nah, nah..stop it... My wife and I find it especially funny to travel around and see the tourists carrying cameras on their chests with huge zoom lenses stuck out the front, not subtle at all and really in your face... Kent Ugh, you're going to have one of each! Now, I am jealous! I wish I could convince my wife to shoot a rangefinder. She wants those tiny point and shoots but she does admit the quality is not there. I have a friend who carries two cameras on vacation, a Nikon D200 and a Nikon D100. His wife just rolls her eyes when we talk about it. She has one of the tiny Canon cameras... Regards, Larry
mhoutman Posted November 4, 2006 Share #38 Posted November 4, 2006 Ah, you don't like my black camera? Larry Larry, you misunderstood me: a "black" one as your is in fact a "black chrome" one, so I definitely prefer yours........ I have to wait a while for my own. Have a nice day, Michiel

I have to wait a while for my own. Have a nice day, Michiel Oh, I get it, not "black and chrome", "black chrome"! I'm sorry you have to wait! Ok, I just walked around Central Park for a few hours and nobody said anything about the camera. One woman did ask if I was a tourist, and I said, "No, is it because of the camera?", and she said, "No, your baseball hat.." Larry
scott kirkpatrick Posted November 4, 2006 Share #40 Posted November 4, 2006 Larry, I enjoyed the assembly slide show. Mine needs to be picked up in the US and brought discreetly home in carry-on luggage. Can you tell me how big the box is? thanks, scott
