Stan Raucher Posted November 2, 2006 Share #1 Posted November 2, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I know it's not nearly as interesting as discussing UV filter vs no UV filter, but is anyone out there going to use a LCD protector for their M8? If so, what type are you planning to use and where will you get it? Thanks, Stan
Advertisement Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 Hi Stan Raucher, Take a look here LCD Protector. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
phlogiston1 Posted November 2, 2006 Share #2 Posted November 2, 2006 Yes, i'd like to what or if anyone uses as protection. These things get scratched and buffed around if they are not covered. I've tried clear tape and other stuff I bought at the camera store; that didn't stick too well, so is there anything that is really good. It is certainly a good look to have an as-new screen when it comes time to trade up. Robin.
spylaw4 Posted November 2, 2006 Share #3 Posted November 2, 2006 On my D2 I'm using a piece of film from some that I got for my Newton screen. Works very well. You can usually get this stuff on eBay Newton PDA pages. Also on Ebay on the Leica Accessories page there are protectors for the D2 listed - as both have 2.5" displays I assume that one of those might be worth trying. If so, what type are you planning to use and where will you get it? Thanks, Stan Funny you should mention that, I just ordered one from here: http://www.screenpatronus.com/ I don't know if the protector is any good but I think it is a good idea to use a screen protector. Maybe I will remove it if enough people say their screens are not getting scratched with use.... Regards, Larry

JHAG Posted November 2, 2006 Share #6 Posted November 2, 2006 I'm a long time punter of screenpatronus. Their product is optimal. I use it for my D2 and my D Lux 3, and also for my Palm. They're cut at the exact dimension. I've even got a small problem with a screen which was not quite adherent to the screen, and they sent me back a new pouch of screens for free. Excellent product and support.
topoxforddoc Posted November 2, 2006 Share #7 Posted November 2, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have used screenpatronus for my DMR and they have been fine. Good service and they sent me some uncut standard extra screens for the secondary display on the DMR FOC. Charlie
albertknappmd Posted November 2, 2006 Share #8 Posted November 2, 2006 screenpatronus is excellent. I use them on both of my DMRs. They are courteous and very responsive.
44Magpie Posted November 2, 2006 Share #9 Posted November 2, 2006 I just ordered 3 screen protectors from screenpatronus for my C-Lux 1. I have heard nothing but good things about them.
johnll Posted November 2, 2006 Share #10 Posted November 2, 2006 I've used Hoodman screen protectors on my 10D (now sold) and 5D and they seem to solve the problem.
nemeng Posted November 2, 2006 Share #11 Posted November 2, 2006 I'm a long time punter of screenpatronus. Another vote for Screenpatronus: ScreenPatronus, Digital Camera Screen protector I bought a set for my DSLR a few months ago. The film is quite tough, completely transparent and doesn't curl up at the edges. IMO it provides excellent protection from scratches and nose-grease / fingerprints etc., and at such a cheap a price (@ $US 10) I can't see any reason for not getting one :?) bradreiman Posted November 3, 2006 Share #12 Posted November 3, 2006 first id like to say im a little dissapointed that leica hasn't (as far as ive heard) used some sort of super scratch free glass for the lcd. im thinking like the saphire crystal on a tag heuer watch for example. even my 80 dollar nixon surf watch has a crytal that has never scratched. i can bang it against rough steel scaffolding and it will not scratch. can't be too expensive-maybe too thick or something but...i had these sort of vinyl/plastic stick on covers for my digilux2. they stick on with no adhesive-just press on and they stay there. forgot the brand name. wish i had used them because my digilux2 screen has lost almost all of its coating. i can tell by the scratches etc that there is a multi layer optical coating that probably helps alot for glare etc. will be using them on the m8 for sure, unless it surprises me with a completely scratch-proof screen...b
