gdb Posted April 16, 2009 Share #1 Posted April 16, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Gentlemen, I would be happy to have your opinion on the R Wide angle zoom 21-35 mm on the DMR. How does it compare with the 19 mm Elmarit (2nd version)? I do not give too much importance to the 2mm difference on the wide side, but what is your experience as far as sharpness and distorsion are concerned ? I would mainly use it for architecture. I remember having been rather disappointed with my former Vario 28-90mm because the distorsion was quite visible at 28mm. Thanks for your help Gérard

stuny Posted April 16, 2009 Share #2 Posted April 16, 2009 Gérard - Your asking this question is a good sign -- It tells me you're closer to replacing your R9/DMR.
Sandokan Posted April 17, 2009 Share #3 Posted April 17, 2009 Here are 2 shots from the 19 - I did not get the zoom because at this range I can walk to reframe and was not worried about the changes in perspective. If I want a wideangle view than that is what I get here. I also have the 35/1.4 so I have both ends covered but with a half and three stop advantage. I dont know which version of 19mm I have - but it has a ROM.
pascal_meheut Posted April 17, 2009 Share #4 Posted April 17, 2009 I had the 21-35 on the DMR, sold it for the 19mm (last version) and regretted it. On film, I found the 19mm to be better, incredibly good. On the DMR, I was disappointed by the edges and angles before f/8 and the zoom was at least as good. By comparison, the 15mm/2.8 ASPH was more suited to the DMR than the 19mm (I know, not the same price) I cannot speak of distorsion as I do not shoot architecture but I did not notice it with the 19mm. I do remember if it was an issue with the 21-35.
