albertwang Posted October 31, 2006 Share #1 Posted October 31, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I suppose that if the M8 is built like the previous M's then it is reasonably smashproof and can hold up a lot to the daily usage. I don't know specifically whether it can outlast the Nikon D2X or Cannon 1D series in a hammer smush or camera tossing contest but I think that Leica has created a solid enough body that a simple drop to the concrete isn't going to freak us out. Any thoughts on the knockaround factor of our upcoming beloved M8?
Advertisement Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 Hi albertwang, Take a look here How smashproof is the M8?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ddp Posted October 31, 2006 Share #2 Posted October 31, 2006 It's a pro level Leica body - take that as you will. Nikon D2X is rugged, but not bulletproof. The DSLR's have more that can go wrong than their film counterparts, so I imagine it's the same with the M8.

Any thoughts on the knockaround factor of our upcoming beloved M8? The M8 seems to be quite rugged, actually. I accidentally (you would have assumed that, I guess) brushed my camera off the table during a hiking tour in the Austrian alps. It dropped about two feet onto the ground which was covered by a thin layer of gravel. Scratches on the wide angle finder but none on the M( (lucky me) and no damage done. Don´t try this at home! Rona!d Posted November 1, 2006 Share #7 Posted November 1, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) So another happy owner in austria or germany? Congratulations! When did you get it? And which dealer? The M8 seems to be quite rugged, actually. I accidentally (you would have assumed that, I guess) brushed my camera off the table during a hiking tour in the Austrian alps. Westerwald-Leica Posted November 1, 2006 Share #8 Posted November 1, 2006 Not yet a happy owner, but a happy participant in Leica Academy´s first outdoor class with a chance to use the M8. One week after its presentation at the Photokina in Clogne. I can really only recommend their field trips to Austria, Germany, North America and a number of other countries. The fee they charge includes tuition, travel and the rental of a Leica equipment of your choice - fully insured (which helped, in the situation described).
