ok. I fitted the screen and tried out a few versions. I had plenty of screens in my spare parts box anyway ;)... With the 280/4.8 all three screens (universal, microprism or full matte) work flawlessly. The microprism can be stopped down to 5.6, the universal can handle 4.8, but the wedges blacken out at smaller apertures. So for macro with stopped down lenses I would recommend the full matte screen, for long lenses the full matte or the microprism screen. Just one addition for the fitting:(A) It may be needed to activate the four prongs that hold the screen by bending them slightly. The R9 screens are *considerably* better than the brightscreen offering and (B) brighter than the original glass Visoflex standard screen. The only downside is that they as less scratch-resistant than the Visoflex screen which is glass and the Brightscreen which is covered by a thin glass screen which is engraved with the framelines.

(A) Oh-Hum... I never dismounted my VisoIII screen (I drawn the lines directly) ... isn't that maybe you have some PICS about the task ? What you say in (B) is very interesting for me ... and apparently SH has the R9 screens at a fair price, but I fear the moment to have the 4 screws removed... wouldn't like to see springs, balls etc. sprouting out abruptly going whoknowswhere :(

Make sure you work in a shoebox lid or some contained captive work area, so things can't roll off the table.

That happened to me about 18 months ago before I discovered that the screen was booby-trapped. :( One little spring and two tiny bearing-balls launched themselves off my bench and onto the carpet in a desperate bid for freedom (it's not like these things don't know when to take their best shot!). I spent several sheepish and humiliating minutes on all fours staring at the carpet not finding any of them despite knowing approximately where they'd landed. They'd just disappeared! After a while it occurred to me that the spring and balls are all made of metal so I went looking for a magnet. I found a strong magnet (Neodymium), combed the area with it and found all three very quickly. :)

Now I use the lid of a shoebox. :o

Pete.
