johnastovall Posted March 29, 2009 Share #1 Posted March 29, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I may have found a deal on a 180 3.4 APO-telyt-R. What are the best focus confirmation adapters out there for this lens on the 5D?
Advertisement Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 Hi johnastovall, Take a look here Best focus confirmation for APO 180/3.4 on Canon 5D . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
grduprey Posted March 29, 2009 Share #2 Posted March 29, 2009 I did not like any of the FC adapters, and found that you really do not need them with the longer lenses on the Canon bodies. The 180/3.4 APO lens is a real killer lens, you will like it. I bought mine back in October in Germany for about $390, a real steal, and a great lens on my R8/DMR. stunsworth Posted March 29, 2009 Share #3 Posted March 29, 2009 The only focus adaptor I used was a cheap Chinese one where the 'electronics' were glued onto the metal adaptor itself. This chip fell off after a few days. I've used a Cameraquest adaptor with 300D, 20D and 5D. As mentioned in the previous message, the longer lenses aren't that difficult to focus. I also use a Brightscreen with microprisms, I find that does help, though the microprisms have a tendancy to black out when the lens is stopped down. I'm using this one with the 180/3.4 and other R lenses. No problem so far.
koray Posted March 30, 2009 Share #5 Posted March 30, 2009 I suggest you to look for the latest (4th gen) AF confirm chips (AKA Dandelion). They are very different from the earlier ones (they trick the camera into AF instead of MF mode). They are user programmable and allow microfocus adjustments. I haven't tried these, but heard good things about them. These guys sell it (but out of stock now): Tago Tech I-Store The page above is full of information, they even have a user manual there. K.
