This little charmer, a chameleon on Barbara's hand, was on a tall stalk of corn at the edge of a farm field, just before we stepped into the forest at Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda, in search of a family of mountain gorillas. I liked this particular version of the shot since you see the legs of the porters in the bokeh.

You can see more photos in the Uganda & Rwanda photo gallery on our site.

Stuart,

It is overall a very fine photo, bokeh and all. It tells a complex story, with animals I somehow envision in warmer surroundings, the edge of Barbara's jacket suggesting otherwise and the porters with rubber wellies pointing my thoughts towards wet.

Carl & Mike - thank you.

Marco - Thank you. It was at about 2200 meters and early morning. We started with layers that we could peel off as the day went on and the trek go difficult. The wellies were to deal with mud and water, little of which was around on this day.

Virgil -

Thank you. With the exception of roaches, Barbara likes close contact with just about all of nature. Read her trip notes from Uganda (in the Ngama Island section, up front) to get an idea of what I mean.
