Caryl - Thank you. Definitely a distant cousin. Mountain gorillas do not survive in captivity and have never been bred there successfully, which is part of the reason why there are only around 700 remaining in the world. Lowland gorillas though have tens to hundreds of thousands remaining (largely do to wider habitat) and they survive and breed in captivity.
