NZDavid Posted March 1, 2009 Share #1 Posted March 1, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) In response to an earlier post, Allan wrote: "Good heavens people... you make it sound like film is evil. Until a decade ago, film photography is how anyone learned the craft at all!" Heavens, "the craft," good versus evil. Obviously, there are more profound theological-photographical questions to consider: Do Leicas have a soul? Are Leica users saints or sinners? Would Darth Vader use digital? What happens to "soulless" digital plasticky cameras with their "evil" menu-upon-menu interface? Is there such a thing as a Leica heaven and hell? Mystic Posted March 1, 2009 Share #7 Posted March 1, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Leica cameras definitely have a soul and a big charisma, maybe the biggest of the whole camera world .

kenneth Posted March 1, 2009 Share #9 Posted March 1, 2009 In the literal sense of the word. Of course an inanimate lump of metal cannot have a soul. It is what we impute into that piece of metal that elevates it. One reads of people "loving thier Leica" but really one cannot attach emotions and feelings to inanimate objects but they do. I think, realistically, we are a bunch of quirky individuals who are a little lost in time that have come together with a common purpose because the world out there cannot understand out adoration which is fine by me

johnastovall Posted March 1, 2009 Share #15 Posted March 1, 2009 Oh yes, Leicas have a soul. The Soul of beauty which all things beautiful have and in turn cause that same soul in us to resonate. They transcend simple steel as a great painting transcends the simple pigments.
SJP Posted March 1, 2009 Share #16 Posted March 1, 2009 Actually they are made of magnesium, aluminum and/or brass and (eek) plastic. Plus a whole pile of other stuff. But as camera's go they probably have more 'soul' than most.

SJP Posted March 1, 2009 Share #18 Posted March 1, 2009 Some peaple love nature (in fact I do), which however does not even exist exept in our own twisted imagination.... At least a Leica is a well defined thing. Before Wordsworth the Lake District was seen as a remote unhospitable and generally unpleasant place. It still is. But our appreciation of this has somewhat shifted over time, probably due to the fact that most of us have insulated houses, central heating, good outdoor clothes etc. It is not quite so scary anymore. j. white Posted March 1, 2009 Share #19 Posted March 1, 2009 I used to work for George Lucas and can confirm that Darth Vader definitely shoots digital cameras. He was last seen with a D1-X.
