I have an MP with 0.72 viewfinder.

I am planning to buy a Summicron 28 mm lens.

Do I need the 21/24/28 mm accessory Viewfinder?

When I review the description of the product, it seems to indicate that I may not need it, unless the lens is below 28 mm, or, if you have a 0.85 viewfinder, in which case you WOULD need the accessory Viewfinder.

"The basic design of the viewfinder mechanism of the Leica M limits the image field view in such a way that bright line frames for focal lengths below 28 mm cannot be included in any of the viewfinder configurations. In the case of the 0.85X viewfinder the bright line frame for the 28 mm focal length is also no longer possible to include."

Can anyone shed any light on this.

No you don't need it. The 0.72 finder supports 28/90, 35/135, 50/75 focal length pairs, although you'll find the 28mm is right at the edge of what you can see.

At higher magnifications, you can no longer see the frame in which case you would need the aux finder.

If you are wearing eyeglasses, you might want to use an external finder. The internal 28mm frame of the 0.72MP does exist, but I just can't see it with glasses.

If you do find you want an external finder because of eyeglasses, don't get the 21/24/28 all in one finder. It is an engineering masterpiece but I find with eye glasses it is much more difficult to use then the 28mm frame in the camera. I hated mine and finally sold it. The single 28mm finder is superior for the purpose as are the separate 21mm and 24mm versions.

It will take the diopters...

Sure, but it's a pain to put off and on the eyeglasses all the time. There are 28mm excellent viewfinders which you can use with glasses.

Hey Ruben,

Thanks for the info.

This is my first time on the Forum; I can't believe the responses.

So, based on some of the other posts, it appears as if the hood may obscure framelines; did I read that right?

Cheers,
