No. The only trouble I have had in that neck of the woods with the 7 is a slightly sticky shutter trigger from time to time, which seems to resolve itself. Is the film advance itself and base of the shutter button solid? Is the play up and down or side to side?

there is actually quite a lot of play up and down, the on o/ff switch, the frame advance lever, like a screw has worked it's way loose from inside the top cover plate and the sections of the switch, frame lever and release button have space between them. there seems to be no visible way of tightening it from the outside so i think i need a technician to look at it

My on/off switch is a tad on the loose side, but the film advance is o.k. Bought it new a few weeks ago, and just assumed it was normal. Perhaps not! I have also noticed a bit of vibration (like a hum) after the shutter closes. Don't ever remember this with the M6, so I just figured that was a feature of the electronic shutter???

..thanks for your input, guys, very much appreciated. i had a go at finger tightening as suggested and not much luck so it looks like that anti-wobble tool is pretty important. reluctant to add a pair of thin nosed pliers into the equation i think i'll pop down to the local service center and see if i can catch the technician in a good mood before lunch on monday. thanks guys!:)

James, I'm not sure that the occasional hum really effects performance. it happens after the shutter closes and is quite minimal. Any idea what causes it? The camera is only three weeks old, so i could probably just return it. As an aside, I searched for M7 hummers and did not get any hits. Do you have a thread bookmarked somewhere?

I'm sorry Jeff I was joking about the 'hummers'. I don't know what kind of noise the M7 makes, maybe someone with one can answer you. It has a metal shutter doesn't it? They usually make a feint noise after closing, bit like after a bell has been struck before the noise disappears! (hard to explain that one!). Just checked my R3 and it does this, but I do mean feint.

Basically if you're unsure the easiest thing would be to check another M7 and see how it sounds compared to yours - take it back to the dealer.

My M7 has a cloth shutter, and is supper quiet. there is no hum, or faint noise from mine

anyway.

brill64. you should return it, you shouldn't have any of those issues.

i have a second hand and heavily used m7 that arrived with a slightly wobbly advance lever, and the on/off switch wouldn't positively lock in either position. i sent it to leica and was charged $35 for the repair. the nice thing was that they looked over the entire camera for other needed repairs and it checked out just fine, so i know i got a decent camera. customer service also told me that if the camera needs to be adjusted in any way, the technicians usually just do it while it's open and don't charge for it.

the only downside was that while it only took a few days for the estimate, it took about 6 weeks to get the repair done and shipped back.
